Great work Matt.
Get a Touch Friendly Start to the Community
Categories: HP TouchSmart Software
What better way to dive in to the TouchSmart Community than by starting off with a finger-friendly, TouchSmart optimized page and integrating it right into the TouchSmart Software. Setting up a tile to access the TouchSmart optimized page is simple, and only takes a minute to do. Once it's in, you can get quick, easy access to many of the community's areas with the touch of a finger. Talk about a great way to "Touch Smart!"
How to Add the TouchSmart Community Tile to Your TouchSmart PC
Step one: Press the "Personalize" button in the lower right hand corner of the TouchSmart Screen

Step Two: Press the "Add a Tile..." button

Step Three: Select "Website" from the options presented. "Program" is highlighted by default. Once you've selected "Website" press "Next."

Step Four: In the box labeled "Target" type: "http://www.touchsmartcommunity.com/touchview" without the quotes. In the box labeled "Tile Name" type: "TouchSmart Community" without the quotes. When finished, press "OK," and your tile will be created.

Step Five: Return to the "Personalize" page as instructed in Step One. Find the TouchSmart Community tile in the list and make sure it is not faded out. If it is, then it will not appear on your TouchSmart Home Page. Click the tile to make it highlighted in blue, and it will then be shown on your TouchSmart Home Page.
Step Six: By default, the new tile icon will be in the lower dock bar on your TouchSmart Homepage. Drag the icon up to the top area, and the Touch-Friendly Community start page will be easily accessible and only a quick finger press away!
The TouchSmart Community touch-friendly page is optimized for the IQ500 series TouchSmart PCs like the IQ504 and IQ506, but will work just fine on the newer, larger IQ800 series like the IQ804 and IQ806.

(TouchSmart Community touch-friendly page as displayed in the IQ504/506 browser)
Special Tip: You can also use these instructions to create new tiles for any of your other favorite websites by modifying what values you enter Step Four.
Yeah Matt, that is pretty nifty. Thanks for pointing showing us how to do it!
Neil J.
Nice.... Like it a lot

How many of you have noticed the irony in this computer?
Think about it.
There is NO other technology manufacturer on the planet that actively wants the public to give their products the finger!
???
btw...
great article.
Pete
and yes, I have been converted since December.

Hey, if I was any good, I'd be headlining in Vegas! Vegas NC. They have 2 mules and a swaybacked horse. And I'm STILL not good enough!
I take it this doesn't work on the Touchsmart notebooks? Just the Touchsmart PC's?

It works with the TouchSmart notebooks also.
Otherwise they would be known as the LookSmart notebooks.

Strange, because I cannot find the Touchsmart software anywhere on HP's site for the notebooks. Just the included HP Mediasmart software, which from my understanding is just one of many pieces of the full Touchsmart application. I even recalled reading on many review sites that the Touchsmart notebooks do not have the full Touchsmart application like their desktop cousin - hence the original question.
So you are saying one CAN install the Touchsmart application also on the HP Touchsmart tx2 notebooks as well? Then where can I find the full installer? As it isn't on HP's site. They only list the updates that require the full install from what I notice.
::Update::
Sorry, I should've asked this in the forums. I noticed in the software forum someone was trying to get this to work on a HP tablet, but the installer errors that it "doesn't meet requirements." I get the same error, but I have the same tech that the desktop uses so apparently the application only installs on the desktops, not the Touchsmart Notebooks.

This is mainly for the TouchSmart PCs. The notebooks only have a few pieces of the TouchSmart software suite, and not the full package. So, you can't add a tile on the TouchSmart start page because the notebooks don't have one.
That said, if you want to use the touch friendly graphic to navigate the community on the notebook, you can just point your browser to the touch-view page (the link to it is above) and book mark it.
