Daily Uses of Our Family's HP TouchSmart All In One PC

I bought the first generation of the TouchSmart PC (the IQ770) for my wife last Christmas.  Since then, it's become a gathering place of sorts in our kitchen for all of our family.  I thought I'd share with you some of the many uses that my family enjoys daily with the TouchSmart.

  1. Music - First and foremost, we enjoy listening to all sorts of music while fixing dinner, eating a meal at our kitchen island, or when we have guests over.  With the remote control, it is easy to adjust the volume for when we sit down to eat.  I can access our music library of all of our CDs, play the FM radio, and even access our XM satellite radio account with a nice, clean touch interface.

  2. Chores and Lists - My wife has gotten into the habit of writing the kids' chores on the TouchSmart PC in the notes section before they get up in the morning.  My kids love to come down and check out their list of things to do or what we have in store for the day.  Even better is when the complete a chore, they can use their finger to 'cross it off the list'!

  3. Recording Videos - My 4 year-old daughter literally LOVES taking videos of herself singing.   She taught herself how to make videos and she can now sit there for hours recording videos - some good, some not so good, but many hilarious to watch when she's not around.  The best part is that it's a built-in baby sitter, so if I need to get something done around the house I don't need to worry about her when she's in front of the TouchSmart.

  4. Watching TV - It's nice to be able to watch TV in the kitchen while the kids are eating their breakfast or while we're preparing a meal.  Since it is connected to a DVR, we can pause it during dinner and record shows that come up for later viewing.

  5. Reliving our Vacations - We leave our computer on all of the time and while it's on and we're not using it, we play a slide show of one of our old vacations. The kids love reliving our memories and gives us topics to talk about as a family.

  6. Checking the Weather -  My wife is a big runner, so it's nice for her to come down and check on the weather in the morning before she goes out as well as in the evening to see what's in store for the next day.

These are just a few of the many things that you can do with your TouchSmart PC.  I'd love to hear about other things that people are doing with theirs.

Dude! Really! Why wouldn't you folks just put that stuff in your press release? I mean, it could *not* be more obvious that you work for the company, man! I have no problem with that, but it's intellectually disingenuous... Just say you work for the company, and tell us some more stuff that we should know about the product...

Hi Jimbo, welcome to the community. A couple of points on your comments. I work for Capable Networks, the owner of this site, not for HP. Our company runs a whole bunch of online communities in addition to this one (check out our links at the bottom of every page).

I personally love gadgets and love to write/talk about them. I happened to purchase a TouchSmart PC over a year ago and use it every day in my house. In this article, I was trying to share with people what I use my TouchSmart and hopefully get some ideas from other users about how they use theirs. Hope this clears up your concerns.

LOL... Now who is more of the hypocrite?  the person doing their job and making factual, helpful statements, or the person in the public domain stating the obvious and being negative.  Jimbo Dude!  Really!   U r angry and not helpful in this post, though you are here on the site and I am sure you have good stuff to say... Give it a try... Add to the thread and cause vs. b'n all about "smack down" ;)

Nice come back Ron...  Do you folks have sys SA rights also?   If so hope you are deleting the nasty grams.   Here are some things to add to the stack for the touch:

  1. Makes for a GREAT Media Center extender server
  2. Collaborative interaction terminal... Try sharing a mouse with a group of people around a computer
  3. Great way to have friends rank content like music, pictures and videos (again to collaboration vision)
  4. Potable entertainment kiosk.  Heck bring this to the party and hook it up to killer sound system AND TV.   You can actually create video playlist for song entertainment.  This sucker can run Media Extenders, a TV AND an LCD projector.  Heck, DJ's will be carting this around soon as it can also be used as a data collection koisk...

Give me more time I will think of more AND I DO NOT WORK FOR HP... Heck I have a DV 9000 that I paid almost $3000 bucks for in Sept 06 when they first came out and I think it SUCKS!   (yes I am angry also).  But this product looks good.  now if HP could let me trade in this crappy laptop that I spent all my cash on maybe i would be happier about them....  so there... I DO NOT WORK FOR THEM OR THE SITE :)

Ron, I can really relate to what your writing. I currently have an old laptop in the kitchen an we use it basically just like you descibe. Mainly radio listeing, continues photoslideshow and a quick check of the weather or email. And besides, the kids really love clicking though old photos.

I am considering an IQ800 as a replacement, ...but well there are budgetary constraints lets say ;-)
