Are you ready to TouchSmart? Are you looking to get your first taste of the newest, hottest all-in-one "walk-up" computing solution?
I hope so, because we're about to give you an overview of what the HP TouchSmart IQ500 series of computers can do. Built in to every TouchSmart is the HP TouchCenter suite of applications. These - you guessed it - are designed specifically to be easy and fun to use, with no keyboard needed!
You'll find everything from news and other important updates, to music and photos, all the way to games and the Internet at your fingertips. Let's get the tour started, shall we?

The HP TouchCenter application can be driven entirely by your touch alone. When you first start it up, you're met with two application bars - the large, main one in the middle, and the secondary, smaller bar on the bottom.
Use your finger to drag the panels left or right and scroll through the available applications, and touch the one that you'd like to run. It's that simple! You can also drag, drop, and reorder the panels to customize the view how you like it. In addition, you can freely add new panels to link to applications, websites, and more.

I don't know about you, but I love to listen to tunes while I'm surfing the web, writing, working, or doing just about anything on my computer. So, if you're anything like me, you went straight to the Music application to get things moving.
Above is the icon you will see for the Music application. If you have music loaded into your TouchSmart, you will see the TouchCenter rotate through your album covers randomly. You can see the covers of one of my albums in the icon above as an example.

Here, you can see the awesome Music application in its full glory. Check out the album view to your left, and the playlist view to your right. Playing an album is as simple as dragging to scroll through your library, touching an album cover, and touching a song to play.
In addition, you can touch and drag songs or album to the playlist window on the right, and save your own custom playlists to jam to later on!

Of course, you don't want to stop at music, do you? Of course not! To fully take advantage of the TouchSmart's beautiful widescreen, you'll want to give the Video application a spin.
Here, you can play videos you have loaded on to your TouchSmart, which can be organized into folders and played back anytime you like.
In addition, you can record videos using the built-in webcam and microphone, or even upload your videos to YouTube.

What better place to store and show off your most treasured memories than on your new TouchSmart? The Photos application is intuitive, easy to use, and a fun way to organize and display the best moments of your life.

Here, you can see the main screen of the Photos application. Like the Music application, you can drag and reorganize your photos how you like them, and can organize them into albums as well.

Here, you can see one of my favorite features of the TouchCenter Photos application - the edit feature. Given that I'm not exactly a professional photographer, I really enjoy the easy crop, rotate, remove red eye, and other tools - no complicated programs to mess with, just some simple touch-ups and I'm ready to go.
TouchSmart Calendar

I'm a self-professed calendar junkie, and simply can't live without mine. The TouchCenter has a nicely designed Calendar application integrated with the unit. It's like being able to bring that old, coffee-stained desk calendar to life... without all the torn edges and scratched-out meetings. Goodbye paper calendar - hello TouchSmart!

Here, you can see that I have added an event to my TouchSmart calendar.

When I check the weather, I want it to be really, really easy. Too many times have I attempted to check the weather online, only to be met with a slow moving website or a bunch of information I really don't care about nor want to see.
In steps the TouchCenter Weather application to save the day - it's simple, clear, and effective. Simply search for your city or zip code, and the panel will display the current weather and forecast.

As you can see above, touching the icon will expand your view to an extended forecast, so you can see just how your weekend weather will be.

Now, we're on to my very favorite application - the Notes app. This little gem has a lot of flexibility that is out of scope for this quick overview, but let me say that it's powerful and fun.
The only thing I treasure more than my calendar are my notes, and I take notes in a variety of ways. No matter what method I choose to use, the good old "sticky note" never seems to go away - and nothing could make my heart flutter more than an electronic version.

Check out this sneak peek of the Notes application. You can tell that I'm jotting down a quick note on how to cook something... wouldn't want to burn dinner, would I? You can select different note styles and colors, and different pen widths and colors as well, to give your notes a unique look and feel. The fun part is dragging and organizing them when you're all done!

Another display of how efficient and capable the TouchSmart can be, the RSS Feeds application makes reading your favorite news feeds simple. First, all you have to do is subscribe to the feed in Internet Explorer (easy to do while you're browsing the web.)

Above, you can see that I have chosen the "Add a Tile" button. Assuming that you are subscribed to feeds in Internet Explorer, you can choose a feed to create a new tile from. Then, after you add the tile, your new feed will show up in your list of panels. This enables you to either skim the headlines quickly, or if you want more detail, you can touch the icon and bring up a detailed reader that will link you to the full articles on the Web.
Last, but not least, the TouchSmart ships ready-to-go with a whole bunch of fun games to play. I'll let you discover the different available games for yourself, but I would like to share that InkBall is a whole lot of fun. It reminds me of the old classic, JezzBall.

You can see above that I didn't do so well on this round! The objective is to draw ink "walls" with your finger that each of the colored balls will bounce off of, in order to direct them into their corresponding holes. It's simple but addictive, and really takes advantage of the TouchSmart's interface.
So, there you have it - now you know about some of the power your TouchSmart has, but there's a whole lot more. There's an awful lot out there for you to discover, as each of these applications has features, details, and customizability to make your computing life easier and more fun. I hope that you enjoy using each and every one.

Hello Jacques, we'd like very much to help you, and it would be great if you could clarify a couple of things for us.
First, when you say "doesn't work," what happens exactly? Is it that you can't even find the application on your PC, or is it that when you launch it, it does not run? Does it give you an error message? Or does it run, but not run properly?
Also, when you say "delete everything and re-install in order," what do you mean exactly? Did you reinstall only the Notes app? (I'm not even sure that can be done.) Or did you run the system restore? If you ran the system restore, did you re-format your drive or just do it as "normal?"
Thanks, I'm hoping that we can help you get your Notes app back up and running!

OK, Peter, What does not work? Is the note never goes back... it stay like I wrote it, so it never appear on the screen.
The HP support got me to do... Start, control panel et delete all TS program 2.0 then the Media, Calendar and notes, restart the PC. After, go to Recovery manager et re-install them in the same order and restart the PC. And it is supose to work... NEVER I did it 3 times.
Thanks Peter

OK, so to start off, it sounds like this is what happens:
1. You can open the Notes application
2. You can create a note
3. You can see the Notes creation interface and write a note
4. Then, the problem happens when you try to save the note - I'm guessing that you cannot save it and have it appear on the main screen. Is that correct? If that is correct, when you try to save it, what happens? Does the notes app crash? Or does it just sit there and do nothing?
As far as the solution from customer support, it sounds like you were told to uninstall and reinstall only the programs. Assuming that you just purchased your TouchSmart, and haven't stored any important data on the machine, I would try doing a complete system restore just to be safe.
The TouchSmart has the option for you to burn recovery DVD's that you can use to restore your system. You can only burn these disks once, so I would do it ASAP and keep them in a safe place.
You can run the system restore without disks, as the TouchSmart also has a recovery partition - a special area of the hard drive where a "clean" version of the Windows and TouchSmart software is kept.
I would run a full system restore and make sure to format the drive and start fresh.
NOTE!! It's important to remember that when you do a full system restore ALL data on your hard drive currently will be deleted and lost, so proceed with caution. If you don't feel comfortable doing it on your own, call customer support and have them walk you through it. Also make sure that if you do have important data on your hard drive, that you back it up.
If you do a full format and system restore, and you are continuing to have this problem, post back and we'll see if we can help.

hello how are you? I'm interesed in purchasing a touchsmart but the iq816t series. I'm a big sims fan and i wanted to know will i be able to play that pc game on a touchsmart pc. I don't want to spend over $2000 on something that i cannot totally enjoy to its fullest potential. I also wanted to ask when your playing PC GAMES or Web Browsing does the whole 25.5 inch screen get filled. From videos that I seen I only seen a portion of the screen filled while web browsing and I thought what logical sense would that make for me to buy a 25.5 inch when i'm only going to be able to view about 12 inches of it while browsing etc....

We recently bought a Touchsmart TX2 and were hoping the laptop came with the same Touchsmart Application software as the desktops. Can you help us find that software or let us know why it was not installed?
Smartnotes is what we were really after, but it would all be nice.
Thanks,
Dan
Do not buy an HP TouchSmart machine!!! I have wasted the last week trying to get the TouchSmart Music player to work but it crashes constantly. The interface has no useful tools. It works insidiously in the background to find music anywhere on your computer but can't handle problem files that you are trying to hide from it. There is no way to manually rebuild the song library as in Windows Media Player or iTunes. There is no way to identify the files it is having a problem with. HP's support solution is to restore to factory settings. Been there done that then reinstalled the Windows updates then the HP updates. It takes hours but doesn't help, still crashes. Piece of Software JUNK!!
Specifically, it crashes when trying to play or list an album. It sometimes plays songs correctly, and the playlist seems to work. However, not being able to delete music, and not being able to control the automatic search for music, makes the program unusable.
One more thing: if it finds music on a temporarily connected external drive, it will never let go of its belief that the music is still there. This results in duplicate entries that crash the program when the external drive is no longer connected.
Three things have to be fixed before the computer is minimally usable: it has to have a way of controlling the search for songs, it must have a way of deleting songs, and it needs not to crash.
Also, the Add to List mode cannot be exited except by shutting down the program, and after dragging to list, the Add to List button doesn't work at all. This problem happens with some combinations of activity, but not always.
We at lila.io have developed an online application which works perfectly well on the HP Touch Smart. Layout and build your own rich media presentations and web sites by just using your fingers. Check out this demo video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ6KlAiX27U or visit us at http://beta.lila.io
Thanks for your time and sorry if you feel this is spam.

How new is your touchsmart? The article was written in October 2008 and HP has updated the notes program since then. You may be running a newer version of the HP Touchsmart notes app on your machine.
