Comments will be most useful to potential people at HP following this thread, if they stay on topic and not go down the (seemingly customary) slashdot/engadget path (if you know what I mean.) Just thought I'd mention that right here at the top.
Engadget Asks: How would you change the TouchSmart PC?
Categories: IQ500 News, Rumors and Gossip
The friendly folks over at Engadget are asking users to sound off about the HP TouchSmart PC. The 22-inch behemoth had some big shoes to fill after the IQ770 had it's run. The IQ504/IQ506 is a lot different from it's predecessor in the looks department, but it's all TouchSmart at the core. Does that glass touch-screen, slim keyboard, high-gloss black bezel tickle your fancy, or do you long for the old days?
How about the performance and specs? How's it feel to you running your favorite apps?
For those who've taken the plunge, how would you change the TouchSmart PC?

I've had my IQ816t for 2 wks. now & I think it's great. It is just my 3rd computer since this 54 yr. old got into the computer age 12 yrs. ago. It's froze a couple of times but for the most part, it's been the best computer I've had. It does everything I need it to do so far. I'm not getting in a hurry installing a bunch of software & hook up some hardware that I intend to so I might be changing my mind. Time will tell. The touchsmart software is keen. My wife loves it. She plays the Christmas music I ripped while she's cleaning house & wrapping my presents. She scrolls through the pics & vids I've uploaded. She plays games. She can't get enough of it. I have to kick her off the computer. So far, all in all, I'm impressed with the computer & HP. Come to think of it, I paid close to the same price for the Touchsmart as I did a IBM Aptiva with 32 MB's of RAM & a 80 Gig hard drive 12 years ago. From this non-geek's point of view, there's no comparison between the 2.

I have looked closely at the Touchsmart. I need a computer in the living room to supply my projector with video (1080p movies) and my stereo with music (mp3 and flac). THe TouchSmart seemed perfect as a high end media center/remote control, but the lack of outputs made it a no go.
THere is a lot of development in high end audio regarding audio streaming and user friendly interfaces. If the Touchsmart was supplied with the right outputs (DVI/HDMI and digital out) then I think it could really make it big.
Hope you will take this into consideration so I can by a Touchsmart in the future.
Regards
I just got this for Christmas and I was going to hold out for a macbook pro. I'm glad I didn't. I love this. The sound is great.
I cannot imagine having any any computer with only one monitor. I think this is a huge oversite.. !!! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have made purchase if it wasn't for this.
Add an external video output. VGA, DMI, HDMI or watherer, but I'd like to connect the Touchsmart to a video projector. 25" are nice, but 90" are better.
I think it comes with coaxial spdif out, so conneting to a real audio system should be no problem.
Then no doubt I'll buy a Touchsmart.
Hmmmm I didn't realize you couldn't use a projector. I do use a projector for my embroidery software classes. I will have to use my laptop.

The notification warning on the calendar has to be better (larger message, sound played, etc.).
Hi
Well it sounds great and looks ok, but I think it needs the following:
- External VGA/DVI port for adding another monitor
- External HDMI port for watching movies on a bigger screen
- Firewire 800 port, backward compatible with Firewire 400
- 2x E-Sata 300 Ports, Faster access to external E-sata drives, that's all I use
- Digital/optical Audio output, for better sound output
- Choice of Gloss or Matt screen
- Choice of version of Vista
- Integrate the HP Touch Smart software Apps with other software, i.e. Outlook calender, email, notes etc
- Faster Processor
If its going to replace the old desktop PC/laptop that people have, then it should offer all the latest features in 1 box, this will then appeal to the wider market for sure, like me, then I will certainly buy one!
im using a touchsmart 540 for disco`s and karaoke ive added a usb to vga then vga to component video box so i can get the video lyrics on the extra screens works a treat but yes it should have video out
