Here is the error message. Is there another way to obtain the TouchSmart developer guidelines?

1155: File

"TouchSmart Application Development Guidelines.msi not found. "

Hi Lynn,

I was able to install via the downloaded file. Maybe it was corrupted during download. Try downloading it again and see if that makes any difference.

I tried it again. Maybe I need to use Internet Explorer instead of Firefox?

I tried downloading the file and installing it, using Windows Internet explorer. I received the same error message:

1155: File

"TouchSmart Application Development Guidelines.msi not found. "

I unzipped the file before trying to install it.

I am using an HP TouchSmart 500 series, running 68-bit Vista, if that matters in this case.

I'll need a little time to get back to you on this.

Can someone at HP please post the Developer Guidelines as a simple zip file that contains the Guidelines files themselves, not a software installer??

It is not standard in the developer community to deliver guidelines as an installer (that does who knows what, that contains what sort of evil DRM someone thinks is necessary, etc).

I'd like to learn about writing applications for the TouchSmart system, but starting out this way is a real letdown.

I agree with Lee.

I am not in favor of dealing with a DRM!

By the way, the installer would not install anything, so I still do not have access to the guidelines.

I would prefer a text file.

FYI: I cleared most of my weekend so I could review the developer guidelines and start transforming some of my touch-screen prototypes. It would be great to receive something useful to work with today

Hi everyone,

HP cannot post the guidelines without the installer. Our legal team insists that the installer presenting the license agreement be present.

As far as I know there are no DRM measures in the installer. It simply installs a PDF document with a desktop shortcut onto your system.

I am getting the same error as Lynn. Any word on a fix or a workaround to this problem? Kind of hard to develop for the smart center application if you can't even download the guidelines.

Hi JoeS,

Are you trying to install on 64-bit Vista? On a TouchSmart PC? That information might help narrow down troubleshooting paths.

Without any further information, the only thing I can think of is that perhaps the location that the installer uses to store temporary files has some kind of file access permission restriction on your particular system. Since we've had some 600 downloads, it seems like this is a rare issue, but I understand that it's frustrating.

What's even more unfortunate is that the software update that you need is unavailable right now. So even if you could install the guidelines, you'd have no way of trying them out. We're working on getting the update back onto the HP support site, but it may take a while before it happens. Some additional software updates caused dependency and sequencing issues that we need to work through, and that will take a while.

Oluf,

Yes 64 bit, Touchsmart 816t. I havent had a problem with other installers yet so I don't know about the temp folder. I will look into it though and let you know.

Thanks

If it's an 800 series TouchSmart, the right software should already be on there. It's the 500 series that needs the update.

Another option is to attempt an install on a different machine and then just copy the PDF from there.

Well I went and double checked. I had Full Control permissions over the Temp folder. Looks like it may be an issue with the Junction Points. When I went to the actual Temp folder location in Vista, I found the Guid extracted folder and in it was the msi. So I just ran it from there.

This still doesn't work. Brand new IQ816. This is not very encouraging, that this problem hasn't been fixed in all these months.

April 27, 2009 1:18 AM

So you're getting the MSI not found message?

April 27, 2009 9:03 AM

That is correct.

The installer has been rewritten. Please download the version that's available now from the same location/link. The new package is much smaller (890 KB). Due to legal requirements it still is wrapped in an installer package (inside the zip) that asks you to read and agree to a license agreement.
