I purchased a IQ524 from HP on May 6th and it was delivered on May 8th. That is the day that the nightmare started. I have spent days and hours on the HP printer support line attempting to get the HPL7780 to scan to the 524 using a wireless connection.
They had uploaded, downloaded, installed, removed and modified the software for the Office Jet Pro All in One L 7780. I have taken the system back to the "factory delivered state" twice and they still were not able to scan a document.
On Monday morning, May 25th I call my case manager and spoke with a lady in Case Management. She stated that the Touchsmart IQ524 can not scan from a printer due to conflicts with the tablet PC software.
I heard from my assigned case manager and told him what I was advised on Monday and he stated that he was not aware of the problem, but that he would look into it.
After returning from FEDX I received the following message from my original case manager:"i have found that this issue is with the tablet pc software not the os....this is even an issue on tablet pcs"
Sound like to me that HP has a little bit of a problem with this product and the disclosure of this issue upon purchase and also to the support people that attempt to solve scanning using a wireless connection.
From the begining and along this VERY long path, I fully disclosed that this system was running on a wireless connection. And NO ONE was aware of the issue in scanning.
BUYER BEWARE if you are using a wireless system to scan. It will not work, and HP does NOT have a solution!
The "tablet software" excuse has been a long running catch all excuse that many tech support systems have used when they want to put the blame on something else when they don't have any other valid solutions. It started with XP becasue the TabletPC version had extensions that were added to Windows XP pro and did cause some problems. Tablet PC functionality is built into Vista and has NO effect whatsoever on how the operating system runs.
So, in a nutshell, support was wrong.
One of my biggest pet peeves when I make support calls (housecalls) is setting up HP printes. I can install an operating system with all the updates faster than it takes to install the HP Printer software! And configuring the woreless printes is a nightmare. I made a housecalle recently that wanted me to set up their new wireless HP printer to 6 computers. It took 45 minutes per computer to get it all working. They were shocked when I gave them the bill...It cost LOTS more than the printer did.
I'm with Lawrence (minus the "hey fool" which wasn't nice. Should have tried the patch.
In essence, the touchsmart is just a laptop motherboard installed into an all in one chassis along with a touchscreen. Windows behaves on it just like it does any other laptop or tablet PC. Nothing extra special.
Another consideration is how you are connecting via your wireless system. Were you trying to connect through your router or via an adhoc network (PC to printer directly with no router)?

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!
David;
Thank you for your comments. I also did not like the "hey fool". HP did load the patch at least two times. The system is running through a router.
As mentioned in my first posting. I was told by a Touchsmart support person that there "may" be issues with scanning. The Case Manager on Monday and then another one on Tuesday, stated that there are issues with the Touchsmart and scanning over a wireless network.
I had spent a number hours in an effort to make this work and I had reach a point that I could not see an end in sight. The support person on Sunday night, thought that he would be able to make it work. But after 3 hours on the phone and loading the 64 bit version of the sw and the patch, he still could not get the Touchsmart to scan over the network.
Then when I turned it on on Monday morning, it attempted to do this continual download of some program. At that point, I was done with the effort by the HP Support people.
I thought that it was a great product outside of the scanning issue, which they just could not make work.
