I keep the optical drive out of my machine since I very rarely use it. Right now it's in a pocket in my laptop bag. I'm not entirely comfortable with this because there is room for it to get bounced around which can't be good for it, and I'm worried about it getting crushed, dust working it's way onto the eye, or otherwise damaged which could leave me stranded when I do end up needing it.

I don't want to leave it out of my laptop bag because I like to be prepared, so I have been searching HPs site, ebay, amazon, and using google to try to find a case made to store an optical drive from a laptop but I'm coming up with nothing. Must be some sort of operator error on my part.

Does anyone use a case they would reccomend, or at least know of a place to get one?

Thanks in advance!

I got a decent case made by case logic for putting my UMPC in. Granted, its a little larger than your CD drive but check places like office max etc for CD and accessory cases. You'll probablu find something that works well. I remove my CD too and slip in the plastic dummy drive to save weight. I feel the same way you do about just keeping it unprotected in my backpack.

Thanks for the idea. Confirmed where my thinking was leading me. I was thining that something made for holding CDs, gutted, might fit it and protect it. I'll check out cases for UMPCs and other tiny devices while I'm at it.
