Just few hours ago I installed Vista Serivce Pack 2 (x64) on my TouchSmart tx2 tablet. Since the installation, the machine was unable to detect any wireless network. I checked in the Device Manager that the driver is working properly. The wireless hardware switch on the tablet was showing blue indicating the wireless was switched on.

Then what I did was to download and install the latest wireless driver from HP (v5.10.91.8). The problem got even worse. Despite Device Manager says the driver is working properly, the hardware switch shows red light and "Turn wireless on" switch in Windows Mobility Center is grayed out.

Has anyone come across the same issue before?

Roll back your driver to the previous version.

Did you try restarting your wireless router? I have had intermittent wireless problems (with Win7) where it will see my network but not connect. Usually happens after coming out of hibernation.

I'm running Vista SP2 on the same tablet and do not have any problems.

Do you have the HP N wireless or the G wireless?

Also, try ging somewhere where you can get free wifi and see if you can connnect.

Also running SP2 on one of my other laptops and do not have any woreless problems with it either.

Thanks for your input but I am 100% sure it's not the router issue and rolling back the driver down fix the problem. I have the N wireless as well as the integrated bluetooth module. However, I just realised the BT module has disappeared from the device manager. I reinstalled the driver and it said it could not find the BT hardware ...

BTW, I found heaps of posts about people complaining the same issue with the wireless hardware switch on various models of HP laptops (though none of them that I've read mention the BT module). I am not very impressed by HP and wonder why they would continue to use the same switch design which is problematic ...

My hp PC isn't a touchsmart, but through googeling I found this particular thread. I recently updated my pavilion m9340f to Vista SP2 (x64) and the wireless adapter reports that everything is working well, except that it does not recognize any wireless network, even if i put a router right next to the antenna. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling various versions of the driver (lite-on ralink 802.11n PCI express) but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any idea what might be causing the problem, the input would be appreciated.

Same problems here. Installed Vista SP2 on my TX2 and now the hardware switch for my wireless doesn't work anymore. Installed latest drivers but to no avail...
Anybody has any ideas?

Hello togetger,

there is a BIOS update available with a description saying "Compatibility for Vista SP2" - maybe it resolves your problem.

I am having the same problem with my toshiba. I spent 3 hours tonight trying to convince a tech that it is not a router issue. It will not work at home or at work. Any input would be appreciated!

BTW--- wired LAN will not work either. I uninstalled sp2 and it still will not work.
