Hi Everyone,

I just bought a brand new IQ524 TouchSmart computer, but unfortunately it is not compatible with the 1 and only Program that this computer was intended for, and that is Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.

Everyone is telling me to get a new Graphics Card from NVIDIA, but HP is telling me that since my graphics card is part of the mother board, that I cannot update my graphics card from a third party. So I instead want to purchase an upgraded Motherboard, and HP is also telling me that no third party has a motherboard compatible with the TouchSmart.

Is this true? Did I just waste $1300 on this computer? It's strange that I purchase a "Top of the line" Computer, and then I hear a bunch of people complaining about the terrible graphics and video card, which is the one thing that can screw up all of my use on this computer.

If anyone has any input on this, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Oh, and 1 other thing I forgot to mention:

I have 1 MXM slot on my motherboard, it is a PCI Express x16 MXM slot

Maybe that will help find the answer, thank you

How did you find out the program isn't compatible with the computer?

These are the requirements for Premiere Pro CS4 according to Adobe's site:

2GHz or faster processor for DV; 3.4GHz for HDV; dual 2.8GHz for HD*
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended) or Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (certified for 32-bit Windows XP and 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista)
2GB of RAM

10GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on flash-based storage devices)
1,280x900 display with OpenGL 2.0-compatible graphics card

Dedicated 7200 RPM hard drive for DV and HDV editing; striped disk array storage (RAID 0) for HD; SCSI disk subsystem preferred

For SD/HD workflows, an Adobe-certified card for capture and export to tape
OHCI-compatible IEEE 1394 port for DV and HDV capture, export to tape, and transmit to DV device

DVD-ROM drive (DVD+-R burner required for DVD creation)

Blu-ray burner required for Blu-ray disc creation

Microsoft Windows Driver Model- or ASIO-compatible sound card

QuickTime 7.4.5 software required to use QuickTime features

Broadband Internet connection required for online services

Is the program telling you which requirements aren't met when you try to run it?

I think someone plunked down a chunk of cash before they did their research on the system requirements for CS4. The IQ524 has a basic 2D/3D graphics card, the Intel GMA 4500MHD, with 128 MB of dedicated memory. While this card may be able to get the job done, it's not a Quatro, but as long as it is an Adobe approved card, it's supposed to be able to work. There is a "Maureen" motherboard in the 524, that's the higher performance one that runs up to a 1066 MhZ FSB, it's missing the tv tuner section, and the MXM slot is empty, and HP isn't going to sell you a video card that didn't come with your model TS, so you got what you bought. You can up the CPU to a T or P-9000 series intel Core 2 Duo, and the RAM can upgrade to 2 sticks of 4GB DDR2-800, but until someone in the geek world decides to try to re-write or hack the HP/Nvidia 9600M GS/GT video card bios for the TouchSmarts, you got to live with what they give, which means that you went cheap and should have built your own 500 or 800 series on HP's website. You could have still had trouble rendering video with the 9600M GS card that is top of the line in the latest series of TouchSmarts. Good luck with CS4.

BTW, you have 3 MXM2 or MXMII slots on the Maureen board. 2 are mini's for WLAN and Modem, and one is for the video. Your video is onboard, and is enabled either through bios or with jumpers, not sure yet, haven't looked at my friend's 2 machines from the inside yet. He uses them at his small independent car sales lot here wher I live, and has had zero problerms with either machine. You can get these PC's new for $1219 on NewEgg with $25 3 day shipping to most zip codes east of the Mississippi River, and as long as you don't live in TN, CA, or NJ, there is no sales tax to bring it up to $1300. Sorry to grind salt into the wound, but maybe you inflated what you reported that you paid, and got a good deal as well. I hope so.
