Greetings

Trying to install a OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD into my TX2-1027ca.  Using Windows 7 RC1 however it will not detect the drive.  When I get to the HDD part of the Win7 install it says that it needs the driver and cannot find the HDD.

I tried the drivers from ATI for the RS780M and searched high and low on the net for drivers but cannot seem to find them anywhere.

Please help!!!!!!!

Might be that the Vertex is an SATA II rahter than an SATA I and is not "falling back" to SATA I. I'm not familiar with that drive but thats my quick and dirty diagniosis.

Have you tried it on another computer? If it works on another PC, install Win7 on to it that way then put the drive back into your TX. It should go through the hardware setup and eventually boot into Windows.

If it doesn't work on another computer, then you may have a bad drive.

I found the problem. Really strange too....

Turns out the Vertex was part of a Raid 0 array and was pulled without reformatting. This caused the SSD to think that it was a 240GB instead of a 120GB ( it was raided with another vertex I guess ) and messed up the detection.

I did a firmware force and it reset the drive. Now all is working perfectly.....and at SATA2 speeds as well.

Thanks for the reply though Dave. I appreciate that SOMEONE replied. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! That was a stumper. WOuld have never guessed it...unless I had known the full history of the drive. I had assumed that it was a brand new drive.

Tell me about it. A normal HDD would have allowed you to detect and erase the partition in the Windows installer.

SSD limitation I guess.

Something new that we all learned. :D

Thank You. You may want to add this to your sticky as well. I am sure that we will be seeing more and more of these issues with SSD.
