Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!

no error message, just installation failed...the vista hotfix came up as an update when I clicked onto HP update program that comes with my PC...and when it fails I am given a place to click onto to send feedback about HP update and there I choose the update that failed from a list and I presume when I send this it goes to their support people and hopefully they get back to me..has anyone else checked their HP updater and have you been given this hotfix to install?

July 7, 2009 10:31 AM

Just tried it myself. Looks like an update that came out in the last few days. Mine also failed to install as well.

I'm glade yours failed as well..LOL...if HP gets enough complaints we'll get it fixed..it looks like a good fix because I do have starting up problems like almost everyone...I just had another look and HP has removed the update..LQQKS like they are going to fix the fix :>)) thanks for your replies.

July 7, 2009 10:00 PM

the update is back again and still fails...does HP get my report when I respond to the failure?

July 7, 2009 10:21 PM

QFE 967758 update failed for me as well. I wish HP did a better job testing their software. My computer still won't reliabily go to sleep. I've had to turn that off. Very disappointing.

July 7, 2009 10:24 PM

QFE967758 fails for me as well. I really wish HP did a better job testing their software. I still can't use Windows Sleep! I'm only running MS Office plus two HP applications. I guess they don't believe anyone will load any other software or use HP & MS updates. Disappointing!

July 8, 2009 7:07 PM

Can't hel you much with the QFE as I'm having the same problem but the sleep issue has been discussed many times here. Look at your event log and you will find that it is the LAN card or WIFI that is waking it up from sleep. If you go into device manager and settings for each, you can disable wake from sleep and it will work.
Alternatively, you can press fn and the f9 key and that will turn off the screen completely. Pressing the fn and f9 keys again turn it back on. Very quick and effective as well as much quicker than sleep. ....although not as "green" an alternative.

here's an update..they sent me a follow up to my original email I sent to them tonight basically explaing what was happening and that a few others haved had the same problem...this is what I sent to support after they sent me some things to check and try..

I downloaded the sp40845 from the page you sent me and then went to the HP update program and tried the hot fix QFE967758 and it failed again and when this happens I click onto "Help us help you by providing feedback" and then "click here to send feedback about HP update" which takes me to this page... http://h20157.www2.hp.com/ediags/HPSU3/feedback.aspx
I also sent them this page to show them there are others with the same trouble.

If they can get the fix fixed I let you all know and by the way there is another updated released today an another issue.

July 10, 2009 2:48 PM

I am also having this problem and have reported it to HP.

HP Touchsmart IQ522UK

July 10, 2009 3:24 PM

I have been sending emails back and forth with support and they wanted me to do different things such as creating a new administrator thinking that was why it didn't work..I didn't do that because I can do all the other updates and I just did a new update yesterday with no problem and I explained that others are having the same problem and that this should be reported directly to HP...I think I was basically dealing with a help desk for HP and this is why I said he should report it to HP and for them to try it especially with a touchsmart pc...I also asked what exactly does the update do and below is what he sent me..so I told him to close the ticket for me because the update is the problem, not my pc because no one I know of is able to do the update...here is what he sent me about the update..

The Devices which we are referring to are mostly USB devices.
They may include but not limited to Printer, Fax, and External Hard Drive etc.
Let me inform you again that the Hotfix is for delayed startup of the Notebook when the above devices are connected.
Therefore, please install the update only if you have any issues with Startup.
If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

I have been trying to download the same hotfix for my touchsmart most of the day. It just keeps running as if to download, but does not. I just now turned it off. I have also had some problems with starting it after it's in sleep mode. I usually have to shut it down, then turn it back on. From what I'm reading, I don't need the update, right?

July 10, 2009 5:37 PM

I would still like HP to put out a proper update with the proper information to it's customers about this update and explain properly who needs the update and who doesn't..I do not leave my pc in the auto update mode for windows updates so I can choose what I download...as an example, I choose not to download IE8 because one of my programs has a problem with it, which is Easy Creator 10 and I don't know if I have any more but IE7 works ok for me.

July 10, 2009 6:04 PM

Yes, I agree. I think I will follow your example and take mine off auto update.

July 10, 2009 8:18 PM

Mine also failed

July 11, 2009 9:59 AM

I sent support another email tell them to inform HP about the update and that there are many who have the same problem and I'm sure that HP support is an out of the country help desk [India] and not HP because every email I get is signed by a different person this is the last email I got from them...I may try it and may not in case it gets me into more trouble...does anyone know how to get in touch with HP direct??
here is the email...
If you still want to install hotfix, I recommend that you please try following steps:

Step 1: Disable User Account Control

* Click on Start> Open Control Panel.

* Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".

* Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.

* Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.

* Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.

* In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.

* You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.

* In order to re-enable UAC just select the above checkbox and reboot.

Look at the instructions HP sent Buster in the above Reply. HP & Microsoft should be ashamed! It's no wonder that Apple gains customers every day. Unbelievable that a simple update wasn't tested by HP before releasing on a variety of configured machines and customers have to go through the above to get HP's software to work. Gee's, I wonder if the HP CEO goes through those many steps to get his computer working. Maybe he uses an Apple.

July 11, 2009 10:24 AM

when you look at the reply it is just the basic stuff I have already tried and I have a hard time getting the help desk to realize that if I have no problem with the update that came out a day or two ago and no trouble with Microsoft updates and no one else can do the update then it is a HP problem and to contact HP..all my emails were from different people such as Dharmaraju,Sudha, Nveen, and Ahmed..this is why I'm sure it is out of country..I'm not being racist..I'm just trying to point out that I believe this is not HP Support, but a HP help desk and possibly they do not want to let HP know that they can not solve the problem and they may be afraid of losing their job by reporting it and don't realize it is a HP fault that HP has to fix...if anyone here is from HP or knows of how to let HP know they have a problem, you have my permission to pass on my comments etc.

July 11, 2009 10:27 AM

Won't load with mine as well. Message says "minimum requirements not met".

July 11, 2009 4:56 PM
