I've upgraded several laptops to faster (rpm) drives and noticed very little in regards to a performance boost. I have also done some laptops with a higher RPM drive with larger write caches and noticed a bit more of an improvement.

However, from what I read, it looks like SSD (solid state drives) may offer faster boot times and better performance.

Digikid just put a high performing SSD in his tablet. Lets see what he has to say about the difference it made.
