EDIT!!

If you have a warrenty, USE IT!!!! Most of the times HP will replace the whole top half of the tablet - that means all of your scratches go and your screen works perfectly. Its the easiest way which always works. If you havn't got a warrenty - keep reading this thread.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right, so heres what happened:

I had on a dual boot installed Windows 7 RC and Windows XP 64 Bit edition.

The digitizer did not work at all on XP, but worked Perfectly on windows 7. So I decided to go over the Windows XP 64 and install the drivers for windows vista 64 bit, they installed without an issue, the previousely unknown device in the device manager was detected as a N-trig digitizer, but the digitizer did not work still!

I then tried to install the Windows XP drivers for the Dell XT2 and this failed half way - but it flashed the firmware of the digitizer.

Now any N-trig setup I run returns this result: "n-trig hardware was not detected on your system" and something about a fatal error.

I bought my HP TX2z refurbished from the US and live in the UK so a return is not an option for me. I have a 90 day warrenty but I dont know how that works and want to avoid it if possible.

I so far have read all other posts and threads over a range of websites and followed instructions to no avail. I used my HP recovery disks to try and get back the original vista ultimate 64 bit, bit that somehow messed up and reformatted my harddrive and left it blank. So I installed Windows Vista 32 bit and tried loads of N-trig setups, none worked. And I installed XP tablet PC edition, again none worked.

 Right now..

I have a TX2 with a dualboot Between Windows Vista 32 bit and Windows XP Tablet pc edition. And need HELP! - I want my digitizer back! I have acess to install Windows 7, Vista 32 and 64, XP 32 and 64 and tablet.

Any suggestions?

Thanks everybody!

I customised my HP tx2z with:
6GB RAM
400GB 5200rpm Hard Disk
2.4Ghz AMD Turrion Ultra x2 ZM-86
Bluetooth + Wireless N
Lightscribe DVD-RW drive

I live in the UK - But I imported my tx2 from america.

Hello,

Ihave the same problem. I have a dual instalation with Vista and Windows 7, though I normaly only use W7. It has worked fine for a couple of months (with only the issue of the phantom touches from time to time).

Then the digitizer started to fail a couple of days ago. At first the digitizer would work after a restar, but only for some minutes, then it completely disappeared.

I found a solution ([1], message by sypher9) and I applied and seemed to work. At least the n-trig instaler was able to find the hardware and started the process. However I did not completelly applied the process described in [1] and something remainded so the n-trig installer tried first to uninstall the previous version. That made the system to restart once (which was expected) and another time (it still tried to uninstall). Since that second restart I have totally lost the digitizer.

I have tried to repeat the process of [1], I have updated the BIOS to version F.14, I have reset the BIOS defaults... Everything without luck.

Has anyone any idea of what to do next? I think the only solution now is to go to Hp and make it be repaired or changed.

Loïc

I have same problem.
Now.. the N-trig become Unknown USB device.
I did a complete system restore (Vista 64bit) .not working..
Install Windows7 .. still Unknown USB device..
I guess it is time to call HP support.. :(

Hi all:

Same problem is happening to me. Already did a system restore and ntrig problem is here again. Have read a ton of forums and it seems to be a problem with ntrigapplet, the same problem that happens with Dell computers. Btw I have not installed itunes.

Installing a Dell firmware on an HP machine is a recipie for disaster. Yes, the digitizers may be the same but the total hardware setup is not. My guess is that you now have a laptop with a nice swivel screen.

There is no n-trig support for XP, so trying to make drivers that were designed to work on Vista are not likely going to work on XP. The nots and bolts of it are just too different.

I have a tx2

I had the same fatal error message

"n-trig hardware was not detected on your system"

but with a big difference! I never installed windows XP, never installed Dell drivers or anything... I only had a clean install of windows 7, then tried to install the nextwindow multitouch device with no success ( got a message saying that it dind't install succesfully ), then I installed the drivers for win 7 found here at the downloads section of the wint 7 group. and then installed vista drivers to see If I could get the rotate screen button to work, cause it wasn't... when I tried to install vista driver, I got the error message and since then I have no touch feature at all and my hardware is not detected...

The nextwindow multitouch device (driver) is for the touchsmart DESKTOP PC.

Right, Since were all clearly screwed - I used the warranty service.

HP were nice enough to pick the laptop up from my house and return it to my house in 10 days even more fucked that it was before. Nifty.

When returned, the laptop refused to turn on and instead the caps and num lock lights would flash.

They replaced the whole top half of the laptop, (my scratches were gone, yay!) but some how messed up? I dunno - damage was probably done in transit as im sure they ran their tests.

Anyway,
Called HP again, they picked it up Tuesday, waiting again...

I Guess for the rest of ya its time to give HP that call, hope they do better for you than they did for me!

Hello all:

I have the same problem and I am reading alot of forums about it. As far as I know there are 2 possible solutions that might work, they are based on the idea that ntrigapplet fails because some other resident program mess up with it.

These are my discoverings so far:

1. adding ntrig exes to DEP does not work for me, it makes the "unknown usb device" message appears .

2. Now I am using a small freeware program called "ooLsuncher" (ask google) to alter the order in wich Ntrigapplet is launched, I put it on the last place to load so it will not mess up with other programs. It seems to be working fine now, cross fingers!!

July 30, 2009 3:43 PM

Hi its is me again

The program I am using is "ooLauncher". I misstyped it, sorry

August 6, 2009 2:42 AM

Hello again:

I made a few discoveries more. At this moment my laptop is working 90% fine without ntrigapplet malfunction. (I leave that 10% in case I discover more programs that interfere with ntrigapplet).

That is what I´ve done

1.download an install ooLauncher. It is a small freeware application that helps you manage the programs running in memory.
2.After the install, launch the program, it leaves a small "Oo" icon on your taskbar, double click on it.
3.You will see a window showing all the programs running on your computer, look for ntrigapplet and select it.
4.You have two buttons on the bottom of the window, one button to move the program "up" and another to move it "down", move ntrigapplet "down" to the bottom of the list - that will make to run the program the last one the next time you start windows.
5.Click ok and close ooLauncher.

Next time you restart windows 90% of the problem will dissapear (at least it did for me). After using this program I have noticed that there are other programs capable to deactivate ntrigapplet. One of these programs is Adobe Acrobat Reader !!!. It seems that AAR lauches some resident program that deactivates ntrigapplet, this happens after a few minutes of using AAR. I tried to deactivate all the extensions of AAR that might be causing the problem but I did not succeed (for the moment).

This issue might be related with the iTunes problem. I have read about it in some forums, it seems that iTunes tends to dissable ntrigapplet and I wonder if the resident program of that sofware has something to do with it (iTunes has a resident service called "bonjour"), I have not installed iTunes (and I will not install it - I use Floola) so I cannot tell you if it might work with ooLauncher.

At this moment all the software I am running on my windows vista is working 100% with ntrigapplet and my stilus and touchscreen is working perfectly. If I find more programs that disables ntrigapplet I will continue to post them.

Programs I am using and they work fine with ntrigapplet:

Open Office
Blender
Inkscape
Gimp
Firefox and Thunderbird

Hope this will be of some use to all of you that are suffering this problem.

Having the same problem, oolauncher is not even recognizing ntrigapplet, I am getting so sick of this machine and the constant stream of problems. I'm glad I bought a touchscreen laptop so that I could battle with the touchscreen and now have it not even be recognized. Does anyone have a fix for this? Trying to reinstall the drivers just results in "Fatal Error - N-trig hardware not found on your computer"

August 6, 2009 11:53 PM updated: August 7, 2009 12:01 AM

Hi,

I'm not sure this will solve your problem but i had something similar happen.

Go to Control Panel-> System-> Administrative Tools-> Services and make sure that "Tablet Input Services" is enabled (started).

By the way, XP mode RC for Windows 7 is out. You could try that and get rid of your dual boot.

August 7, 2009 2:56 AM

Hi again:

It´s kind of weird that ooLauncher does not recognize ntrigapplet. I will suggest you to make a total system restore (I have done it) and start again (make sure you backup your work!!).

One thing more, I did not install the latest ntrig drivers, I am keeping the older ones that comes with the computer because I thought that they might be causing the problem (before the system restore I was having alot of trouble with ntrig just before I updated the drivers - now I am not so sure of that but anyway I am keeping the old drivers)

Actually after total system restore, vista update, drivers update (but the ntrig ones), software install and oolauncher install, my computer is running fine 90% of the time. Every time stylus stop working I write down what program I was using to try to solve the problem.

I know this is higly annoying but I think that the solution is to avoid those programs that might cause the problem with ntrigapplet and hope and pray for an update to fix this out

Do not give up

Dral

To Heimdude:

I have checked on services and tablet imput is working fine. I wonder if it stops working whenever ntrigapplet stops working. I will check next time it fails

August 7, 2009 10:28 AM

tablet input services is enabled. Having to wipe my computer with some 20 odd programs installed because HP and ntrig can't get there drivers right is unacceptable.
I wish I would have waited for a reputable company to put out a touchscreen laptop, and wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone considering it.

I should have found this thread earlier. Im having the same issues. Periodically loosing n-trig usb recognition. I did the update some time ago and things were working for a couple of weeks. It seems each time I install a new program this problem pops up. It usually happens after waking from standby. I do agree there is some conflict in startup programs but do they have a sequence when you open the lid? It looks like something is connecting and trying to update. I have 100% cpu usage and usb fails. Using "prio" I have found many sights Im connected or connecting to even with ie not running. Most of them have to do with net traffic balance and updates. Thanks for the heads up on oolaunch. I thought "prio" might handle this execution order but havent investigated that feature yet. Anyhoots Ive attempted to stop all the google, adobe, apple, MS, HP auto update crap and things seem to be much faster and less usb crashes. Two processes that "seemed" to interfere are wdfhost and wmpnscfg. One of these tie into itunes and usb issues. My fingers are crossed. I have been keeping task manager open to watch what is using up resources when the tx2 awakes and the usb crashes. To check up on n-trig look into the pen pressure thread. N-trig is working on the issues and we even were able to get a response from them. All is not lost.

August 7, 2009 5:50 PM

One more thing. After you uninstall/disable the n-trig drivers in device manager do a hard reset by holding the on button till it turns off then let go and do it again. Power will cycle on and then off again. Now start up normally.

August 8, 2009 3:04 AM

Hi again:

This kind of problem is happening also to Dell computers. They use ntrig so it seems to be a problem with ntrigapplet. Ntrig has released a patch for Dell but as I saw on their forums the problem is still there. While we wait for a Ntrig release (wich I doubt because they are developing windows 7 drivers) the only way to try not to throw our Hp´s through the window is to read this forum and be patience.

August 12, 2009 7:44 PM

After tinkering with a lot of things mentioned in this thread I was able to get the ntrig drivers to fatal error due to an unusuable operating system. Am I any closer? is there a fix from here?

August 12, 2009 8:52 PM

Also, it won't let me uninstall the drivers because ntrig hardware is not detected on my system
