Hello. TouchSmart and Forum noob here. I've searched the forums but don't see an answer (forgive me if I missed it).

I'm setting up my new IQ546T, and would like to disable the automatic startup of the HP TouchSmart software (currently, it starts up with Windows start, and I'd like to manually start it up on my own when I want to use it--still prefer Windoze as my primary interface).

Lots of programs have a preference to not start with Vista automatically, but I can't find it. Could anyone point me in the right direction (hopefully this is possible)?

Thanks.

Rich

1. Open your Touchsmart software. In the opening screen with all the app tabs, there should be a button near the bottom marked "Personalize." Click on this button.
2. A new screen should pop up that allows you (among other things) to pick and choose which app tabs are displayed. On the right side of the screen, there should be a button marked "Settings." Click on this button.
3. A window will pop up with two already checked boxes marked "Auto-Start" and "Quick-Launch." Uncheck both of these boxes, and Touchsmart will only start when you manually open the application.

Be advised: the Touchsmart software suite will probably start up significantly slower as a result of this action. Currently, your Touchsmart apps are all running in the background upon startup. If you uncheck this option, every time you start up the software, it will have to start up every single app for the first time.

Hope that helps!

Thanks  for the quick reply. I found this menu option last night, and both boxes ARE unchecked, but it's still starting up on its own. I'll try checking, restarting, unchecking, and then restarting again tonight to see if that makes a difference.

Do you turn the computer on using the "house" button on the lower right? That will start the TouchSmart software even when the two boxes that rose mentions are unchecked. It could also be that there is a problem with the button, where the computer effectively thinks it's being pressed all the time. That would also cause the TouchSmart software to start up every time Windows starts.

Yes, I've been using the "house" button rather than the power button on the top right. This probably explains it. Thank you. I'll try using the other button when I get home tonight.

Thanks all for your prompt replies.

This was just the trick! Thanks so much.

Hello Gents- Reviving an old thread here, but do either or you know how to disable the touchsmart button all together? I'm working on a kiosk installation and the button is exposed...hence the dilemma!

Any advice?

Thanks!

The button is implemented as a "HotStart" button. There's a registry entry for it.
