Bought in April, worked for a couple of weeks, then freeze frame, not booting up etc, all the usual problems.  Eventually gave up and put it in to be checked out. Repair shop fitted new motherboard. Worked for a couple of days, then back to the repair shop where they carried out a BIOS upgrade. Worked briefly then usual hang ups kicked off again - back to the repair shop. Assured me PC is working fine. Got back home and I couldn't get more than two minutes operation out of it. Immediately unplugged and taken back to the repair shop. When I got there it was started up, with me in attendance and the machine was faultless, TS running, itunes running, word documents opened, absolutely perfect. Ran for 30 minutes. Now back in the car and straight home - plugged in and you guessed it, gets to the desk top and back to normal, frozen / hanging up. Won't work for more than a couple of minutes. ANY IDEAS PLEASE. (Operating in a AC controlled room).

Any other PC in the house? possibly virus infected that's attacking the IQ810?
Are you hooking the NIC directly to an internet connection modem? if so a router with firewall is strongly recommended. This would be close the the same as attaching to a wireless network with infected PCs on it.

Easy test, do not hook it up to the network or turn on wireless when you get it home.

I agree 100% with Diane as that is a possibility, but there is more to consider.
I think it is something you are plugging in to it at home that is not getting plugged into it at the shop. Are you using a USB drive, a USB Keyboard, mouse, hub, or other peripheral at home that you did not bring to the shop?
It may also be a faulty network cable that you are plugging in that is causing it to lock up.
Try to hook it back up in the exact same configuration as it was in the shop then add one external device at a time until you experience your problem. Wait about an hour between adding each device.

Another consideration is the power going to the computer. If there is anything else on the circuit that it putting noise or fluctuations into the power going to the computer, that can cause problems. SOme things that can cause problems are laser printers which draw a lot of current. If possible, try to set up your touchsmart so it is the only device plugged in in the room it is set up in. Again, add one device plugged into the electrical outlets at a time until you have your problem.

See if that helps.

Thanks a lot, tried it with router turned off the the A/c's off, still having problems. Got the PC on my desk at work right know and been running without problems for 2 hours or so, (no internet connected) that's the longest it's been for 3 months - except the mouse isn't working. TS operations are good.

OK, if I understand the firts part of your post with the router and A/C's off, I'm assuming thats at your home.  And it doesn't work there, correct?

The second part of your post about it being on your desk at your office running for 2 hours, is NOT at your home, but it is running.

That makes me think that something at home is causing enough power fluctuations to cause the computer to lock up.

There are a few possibilities.

1. Something is wrong with your touchsmarts power supply that makes it overly sensitive to power fluctuations.  This scenario is the least likely because you say  it worked at teh shop and works at your office.

2. Something is terribly wrong with the electrical circuit going to the room you have your touchsmart set up in at home.  You will need a qualified electrician to check that out.  Do you live in an old house or new?

3. something is draining or putting a strain on the electrical circuit going to the room at your home that the touchsmart is set up in.  Things like plasma TV's, wall/window air conditioning units, small refrigerators/freezers, tv's, microwaves, laser printers all drwa lots of current and can drop the power going to your touchsmart casuing it to lock up.

As for the mouse, the mouse and keyboard (that came with your touchsmart) both use the same RF transmitter dongle that is hidden under the lower edge of your touchsmart.  If you are using a different keyboard than the standard one and had removed the RF transmitter, the mouse won't work.  If you are using the KB and mouse that came with your touchsmart and the KB is working, try pressing the connect button on the underside of the mouse.  You may also want to check the batteries in it as well.

Hope this helps.

Thanks David, now I'm getting paranoid obout this thing. After 4 hours or so at work (different location from home) even the TS operation wouldn't work. And my work 'desktop' sitting next to the HP Touchsmart froze up twice.
Last week I managed to back up all my files onto a seperate hard drive. I've now got the hard drive plugged into a mates Laptop downloading 'bits and pieces' and his machine has totally frozen on me, can't do anything with it apart from turn it off. Can't believe HP has put this crap on the market. Whilst at the repair shop last week, including mine there were 5 in there for warranty jobs.
