Hi. My new TX2 takes 5 mins to boot up and runs Very Slowly for a PC with a 2.2 GHz CPU Dual Core With 3 GB of RAM. It often freezes. On occaisons I have had the blue screen of death. Windows stop error. When it Freezes the only thing to to Is to hold the power switch to make it force a shut down. Also the Fan makes So Much noise the laptop resembles a hairdryer! Is this improved if it is run on Windows 7? What about XP? At least that doesn't hog Memory and is reliable. Is it possible to successfully install XP with the touch functions working? - As Vista is rubbish it seems. Either that or I have a faulty new lap top. My friends Cant believe how slow it is! I've tried disabling Various start. up Programs, Changing the graphics, power Management etc. So will It work ok as a tablet? I bought one TX 2 because I go Wrist and hand pains on a normal PC. This laptop has not been good so I have to keep going back to my desktop as that just Works- this doesn't. Grateful for any help or Suggestions

XP will not run on it. Before you try anything, since it is new, you should take it back/return it to where you bought it from for an excahnge/warranty repair.
Sounds like it may be a heat issue of bad RAM, but since it is new, let the retailer you got it from make things right.

Sounds like a faulty device. Get a replacment. If you dont like vista, install windows 7. It works great with the ts tx2

Dosn't sound faulty at all, sounds like mine!

First things first. HP filled your laptop up with soooo much crap, it seems its far from new.

Vista isnt half bad, but windows 7 provided a much faster experience. Why not try it out with the release candidate. Just beware, when installing stuff, install only the needed drivers and none of the HP media smart, recovery, information, health etc. crap which ***** your laptop.

You'll find its actually pretty damn fast! and with windows 7 - you dont need HP's crap to use multi touch! you can zoom and rotate in windows!

I customised my HP tx2z with:
6GB RAM
400GB 5200rpm Hard Disk
2.4Ghz AMD Turrion Ultra x2 ZM-86
Bluetooth + Wireless N
Lightscribe DVD-RW drive

I live in the UK - But I imported my tx2 from america.

Hi everyone. thanks for the replies. I have been tempted to return the unit For a while. But I have not been sure if the unit was faulty or they are all like this. I have disabled a load of programs From Start up. The first thing I did was take off the Norton software. It slows down any pc!! Can't believe anybody pays for it! Actually I haven't had a blue screen or freeze for a while. I thought about windows 7, I downloaded it. But Microsoft say don't test it on your Main Computer and the OS is still in Beta.

If I do put RC 7 on then do the Writing pad functions work without putting on the HP stuff? I use the pad all the time instead of the keyboard

I knew the tx2 would be slow even when I bought it. You can't run Vista on a 5400rpm HDD... So i swaped the standard HDD for a OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD. Now I'm running win 7 and it's fast as lightening. Boots up and I'm logged in in abt 1 minute. Return from hibernate takes abt 25 seconds. Both Vista and the original HDD is rubbish == RubbishRubbish

I spoke too soon. IE7 crashed and eventually froze the whole pc. I could only get out of it by logging myself off in task manager. task manager could not even shut IE7 down.

Honestly, your doing your own head in by not using windows 7. The things microsoft say are for their own protection. Kinda like a disclaimer. Belive me, windows 7 RC is stable and fully capable of being a main OS.

In my own experience, i have neve been able to get a pc backto full speed despite remolving all crpa, clearing the registry, removing unnessary start ups etc. The only efficient way as far as im aware, is to reinstall the OS.

Just give windows 7 a try. If it dosnt work out, you can immediently restore back to vista using backup CD's.

And yes, Im typing this on my tx2, on windows 7, with ONLY hp media smart webcam installed. No drivers neeed of HP either, most found of windows update automatically, the rest of manufactures website, but we can help you with that no prob.

The touch works fantasticly, the pad is still there, there is a very impressive on screen keyboard which is actually big enough to use efficiently in tablet mode! and most of all, windows 7 is DESIGNED for touch! Vista isn't.

Let me know what you do,
All the best!

OK I'll give Rc7 a go. The hard drive has a recovery partition. What I planned to do was to make an image of the whole drive using acronis. Then put on
RC7 which I have just made a Dvd of From the iso

Well I've installed RC7,so Far I'm impressed. The PC runs far quicker. The Most troubling things at the Moment are 1. My XP Machine Can see the laptop, but the laptop Can't See the X P Machine.. on the network.           Also I how do I get the fingerprint reader to function are there any W7 updates?

Run all win7 updates and install the vista drivers/software and it should work.

Hi, I've done this. The reader is installed properly in device Manager, but digital Persona will not see the device. After living with this laptop For 6 Weeks, I Would advise potential buyers to steer clear. Unless you really need a touchscreen and can't afford the Dell XT then this laptop is not worth the money and aggro. The Main problems are ;

1. Terrible performance running Vista from the Factory.
2. Noticeable high pitched buzzing from the screen while the backlight is on.
3. High amounts of heat Produced - a fan that is so noisy and runs So fast it is like owning a wedge shaped hairdryer!

I kid you not. There is no way you can use this thing on your lap. Better get ear plugs to block out the hairdryer noise! It is truly awful.

Right, first of all, I run my laptop on power saver all the time, it does not lag in performance at all for m, the only time I switch for balanced and experience a bit more noise is when im playing high end games. And the fans are on the lowest settings and the CPU maintains a temperature of between around 45 - 60 oC with the fan on the lowest settings (quite.)

About the screen high pitched sound, Ive never heard it to be honest - I asked my kids to have a look and they didnt hear anything either so its not my ears :) If i were you, i would have my laptop rplace by HP whle it is still under warrenty. Just give them a call!

Fortunately, you don't need any finger print software for windows 7. It comes with one built in. Uninstall digital persona and go to the control pannel, ensure the view is not set as catogery and then choose biometric devices and you will see you're finger print reader, the rest is obvious (cant guide you through it as ive already done it)

any other problems?

My TX2525nr had similar issues, then finally died. It went back to HP and got a new hard drive and new motherboard. Has worked fine since. Send it back.

They will ship you a box (2nd day air) then ship it back the same way after repair.

You need Digitalpersona (DP) for IE8 and other Windows apps, e.g. FTP clients - it's not just for logging to Windows that you use a fingerprint reader. The 64-bit Vista drivers for the fingerprint reader and DP software v4, both from the HP support site for your tx2, work 100% well under Windows 7 x64. Do not use the fingerprint reader driver suggested by Windows update.

Hello ronak, I have set the lap top to power saving mode. It has made absolutely no difference to the amount of time that the fan is running fast and making a racket. Even on its slowest speed it still makes quite a din. With regard to the screen buzz, I have noticed that the sound gets louder and higher pitched as the backlight intensity is increased. There must be some kind of switch mode inverter or supply used for this backlight and as the light is dimmed the switching frequency decreases thus the wine lowers. You can actually hear the switching noise. Sometimes DC to DC converters do make noises like that but in a laptop at that volume, it is very undesirable.  Maybe you cannot hear it because the fan is drowning it out!! I will keep the laptop from now in the hope that by the time I do return it a fix may have been found for this problem. If I returned it now the chances are at that I will just get another replacement with the same problem.

As just mentioned, Digital persona is required for storing passwords and other features the windows use is purely for logging onto Windows. I will try to reinstall Digital persona and hope it works. It is a real shame about this laptop because it could have been so much better. It should have been so much better. Hewlett packard have let us down.

undervolt undervolt undervolt
it is very simple and very effective
 you only need two files:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pumastatectrl/files/PumaStateCtrl_win64bit/Pu...
http://www.exetoservice.com/ (uninstall after setting up the Puma service - you don't need to keep exetoservice once the service is successfully created)
