As stated above. Is the touch interface really the Future? What is your say? And what would you like to see from HP in their next Touchsmart series. I would like to see a Touchsmart laptop with a Oled screen and maybe a intergrated projector.

I like touch. I have a iPod touch, Touchsmart 800 series, HP TabletPC with touchscreen and pen digitizer, Fujitsu tablet PC (slate), Samsung Q1 with a touchscreen, (until recently) a carputer with a touchscreen and my trusty smartphone with a touchscreen. I like the touch interface...can't you tell. ;-)

On the more obvious side, while touch has caught on with PDA's and smartphones, it has not gone mainstream with computers like the touchsmart and tablets. I hope that the native support built into win7 will change that but its also up to the software developers to make the programs touch friendly.
For instance; I purchased Delorme Street Atlas 2009 because it has a UMPC "mode" that makes it more screen friendly for the touch interface. Frankly, I don't see the difference as I hace to either still use my stylus or grow long fingernails. Being a guy, the long fingernails option is a no-go for me. :-)
So, there is a future for touch if the programs support it.

There will always be people who won't like Touch, but yes... touch is the UI of the future and touchless gesturing (Project Natal) is the next step.

The anti-touch crowd is mainly concerned with finger smudging and accuracy.

Personally, I think that these new UIs are just a piece of the puzzle... we need a more easily and tightly integrated tech ecosystem for the home and office. I want to be able to sit down with my TX2 and "flick" videos to my TV in order to play them or "two-finger drag" pictures to and from my phone (like the "Play to" feature in Windows 7, just more evolved and graphical).

If I get word that MS and/or HP aren't going to build those features in right away, I'll start coding them myself as a Media Center plugin or something.

Yes I am touch crazy too but there are many diferent things going out there. It is still physical. Meaning still touch/gesture. I heard a lot about mind controlling devices, which are still in development. Or do you guys/girls need a physical response. The tech is advancing like crazy. It is a bit scary, I think for people without intereset in Technology. But it´s great though to live in this times...

Ah yes... OCZ's Neural Interface actuator (NIA)... the "mind control" device. Interesting concept. I'd love to try it out sometime.

What's more interesting to me was an experiment that focused on using ultrasound to create "virtual objects" ... I can't find the video anymore, but it was wild! It showed some kind of sonic emitter in front of a screen displaying a virtual object. A guy then took a post-it note and held it over the emitter. It moved accordingly to the shape of the object.

Cool Holographic display, but not what I was talking about.

I just found what I was talking about: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7593444.stm

Imagine this working in concert with a touch screen to produce a virtual keyboard you can actually feel...
