Hi everyone, I am the owner of a brand new tx2z touchsmart and I'm glad I came across you guys on this forum =)

I had a few questions about the general performance of this laptop because I have a 2-year old HP Pavillion Desktop with almost identical specs to this laptop, and my 2 year-old computer is noticably faster than the tx2z.  I have the 64-bit version of Vista, and it takes about 1 minute and 45 seconds to boot up to the welcome screen on a fresh restart, and it takes well over 2 minutes to boot from hibernation.  Is this similar to how long it takes to boot for everyone else's tx2s?

Also, out of all things to not work correctly, I am having issues watching streaming flash video- namely youtube.  I am having an issue where every 3-5 seconds the video freezes up but the sound continues to play uneffected by the visual stuttering.  None of the system resources are too taxed when this happens; if I only have firefox open, a youtube video will bring the CPU usage to about 60% from the baseline of ~10%.  The only reason why I'm asking about this here was because I've watched youtube videos off of some pretty bare-bones computer setups, and never had a visual hiccup problem like this... something as simple as a flash player should run flawlessly on a shiny new computer, right?.

Any input on either of these two issues is greatly appriciated.  Thanks in advance!

There was another psot about firefox and flash today about how it really slows things down.

As far as performance, Is your pavillion a dual core cpu?

These laptops come with a lot of bloatware on them, namely the norton antivirus/inernet security which slow things down. Browse through the other posts for info as there has already been lots of discussion as to how to improve the performance.

If you are looking to upgrade to Windows 7, I strongly encourage you to read through everyones posts about it and the problems you may have. Its doable, but you have to follow the instructions to the "T".

You additionally want to browse through the power saving options, I found many settings in there to be lower than necessary.

I'd like to second the jumpy video bit, however (the other topic seems to be focusing more on the issue of resources). The easy solution I've found is to just allow the video to fully load, but a fuller solution would be nice.

It's not a 64 bit problem, just checked it in IE 32.

I'm kind of wondering if it has something to do with the dedicated memory on the video card, but I doubt this would be the problem if it works fine once the video is fully loaded.

Thanks for the fast reponses!  When I got my laptop, the first thing I did was remove all of the bloatware and set all of the touchsmart programs to not start themselves on startup.  Besides the flash video problem, the computer runs great once it boots up... i was just concerned about the long bootup times.

I did try and watch a video by waiting for the whole video to load and then play it... it seems like that fixes the stuttering issue for the most part.  And I don't think its a firefox problem, the same thing happens if I use firefox 32 or IE 32.

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone!
