Hey, did you ever find a source for a replacement fan? I have the same problem. I love my Touchsmart IQ770, but this fan is the first thing that fails on it. I need a new one as well. I've been searching all over the Internet but can't find it. Any assistance appreciated. Please email erickwa@msn.com

Try googling "Touchsmart Replacement Parts" or going to a local computer place and see if they can order the part for you. Here in Delaware we have Kehtron computers that builds and repairs PC's. I would go there and see if they have a source for a replacement fan if I didn't want to leave my unit with them to fix it for me.

I hope that helps.

They want $100 if you can find one, so I just salvaged some junk box parts, and viola. 5 bucks and change and it works like a champ. Those mag-lev fans are crap. I replace them at work all the time. I tried to take this one apart and ended up killing it. You can decode the fan specs using the part #. Voltage, diameter, etc. This one is 50mm with the yellow tach output. Blue temp sensor lead not needed. Converted the 12V to 5V, and took a dremel to the plastic frame. Not pretty, but it works: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/whtabtme/iq-cpu-fan.jpg

Here is a link where others are trying to solve the issue. Hell, if I find some fans, I may buy a crap load of them and sell them on ebay! :)

I went to Sunon's website and clicked on the contact link and then choose the distributor option. I then clicked on DE and found that Allied Electronics is their authorized distributor for Delaware. If I remember, I will call allied on Monday and see if they can provide me with a cost for it.

Yeah, best buy wanted to send it out for $295...right. I talked to Sunon's US rep. said they didn't make em over here and he had no clue who to contact. e-mailed their Jap/Euro site..3 months and no reply. Great company

The fan on my 800 series is starting to act-up. My PC is just past 6 months old and I don't expect it to last. Already I am thinking about the next PC I will have to buy once this one stops working.

Shame... I hoped for better quality from HP.

I found a source for the exact replacement fan, my sample arrived today and I just plug it in, it works like new... Cost is $37.50 each and I had to order 200 pieces minnium. If I can get enough people interested, we can share. Please let me know if anyone needs one, cost is $37.50 plus shipping cost.

Hi everyone, I too am looking for a Sunon fan too, and if any one has one, or information on where we can purchase, please can you advise me. Email LIMOS1@gmail.com

I would be really interested but unfortuanately I am in UK, not USA.

I have had an answwer from Sunon and they said this fan was discontinued and there is no alternative.  Seems HP Customer care (non-existant) and Sunon think it perfectly acceptable to scrap a 30 month PC for the sake of a 30$ fan.

If anyone has any suggestions or alternatives I would love to hear.  Especially the source you found for the fan as Sunon told me it hasnt been made for ages.

Did love this computer but have had 3 HP Pcs fail just outside warranty and now reckon I will never touch HP again as Customer sevice is useless.

Found on another forum that someone suggested lubricating existing fan.  I had used air to clean but that hadnt worked.  Now soaked fan in WD40 and the system has started up.

Hope this info helps some other people too.

Would still love a solution as a replacement as now worried system wll fail and cook but will  monitor.  Cannot find any sort of replacement fan anywhere so still looking for help and advice with this.

That's right. this fan was discontinued sometime ago but I an still get them as they sent me two already. I installed one on my HP sometime ago and it still running. I love to help but the next order will be 200 units minium, if we have enough people needing those fans, it can be done.

Danny,
I'd be interested in ordering one from you if you do end up ordering the lot of 200.

Heck I would buy at least 3-4 just to have as backup.

Just because they're not "officially" available, they're frequently available in spare fan kits in computer parts supply stores, the post above yours from Pat shows that there are compatible fans out there even though you can't find the exact part number.

People get too hung up on matching exact numbers when this is a situation where there are a million variables and options, you just need to open your eyes to them.

PLEASE SEE UPDATE A COUPLE COMMENTS DOWN!

I have the same problem with my Touchsmart and was searching all over by brand name. NOT THE WAY TO DO IT! Search by the part number, which is 5188-7284. Got the part number from HP. Their service this time was actually good. I purchased one off of eBay for $100 and got sent something that wasn't even close even though it said it was for my Touchsmart IQ770. Returned that one and purchased one for half that price at www.sparepartswarehouse.com. There are other places selling the refurbished fans. And there are some places in the UK who say they are selling new fans. Along the way, I also found out that Best Buy will take your machine in and ship it to their repair facility (for the West Coast it's in California) and will fix the fan. The cost estimate I got was $150. I don't know if I trust that, but I thought I'd share. While I was looking (before I found fans and had been told the cost to repair would be $300), I found the auctions on Overstock.com. The Best Buy Outlet (user name cowboom) has some refurbished Touchsmarts. Thinking that was my only option under $300, I purchased a second one for $200. My search for a new fan is now so that both machines will work. Good Luck!

gobonniego,
You're not picking up what I'm putting down!

It has nothing to do with parts, things like fans don't work that way, I can take the fan in question (if I still had a 770) and go to a store like Micro Center, and find more then a few other items that use that same format fan and buy them for under $20.

People are just not thinking this through enough, it feels like they have never had to improvise anything in their life, sometimes you have to open your eyes and look at more then just the tiny details to solve a problem.

Micro Center does not carry a comparable fan.

They may not have the fan, but Pat was able to use an AMD processor fan as a suitable replacement.

As I said.. improvise, since you're not going to find these on a shelf labeled "IQ770 Fans"
