I copied all of my photos from my external drive to the c drive just to make TouchSmart happy. Problem is they're now effectivley unmanageable: I can't view by date as the time signatures on some of my Photos are wrong, when I click on Albums TouchSmart ignores my folder tree and just throws everything on the desktop in alphabetical order, which leaves me with 'All Photos' - basically akin to taking every photo you've ever stuck in an album and throwing them onto a big heap on the floor..enjoy! Did the developers do any sort of user testing?

You're not the first to point out that some of the integrated apps in the TouchSmart Software are a little lacking. I think they're a great start, but now that they've opened it up to third parties, hopefully we'll see some better, more fully featured apps come out. And personally, I'm hoping someone really knocks it out of the park with a much better photo app.

I don't think it needs replacing with third party software.. just patching to allow the user to specify folder locations and preserve the option to keep trees intact. In my view HP would have been made aware of this with some decent consumer trials.

At the moment I can't make much use of any of the software: music - if TouchSmart has to fire up itunes to find my files why not just stick to itunes? The browser is massively limited and the photo software broken. The touchscreen is a neat but redundant interface at the moment. That's unlikely to attract 3rd party developers.

IMHO the computer just got less personal.

I'd like to understand in more detail how the copying of photos to the TouchSmart changed the photo dates. Could you send me a Private Message, please?

Hi ... it didn't change the time signature, that was wrong on the photo due to the camera's date setting. I order my photos by date in the file/folder name. Touchsmart currently doesn't let me do this.

I think I understand now. I organize my photos in a similar way. I need to verify this next thing I'm going to say, but I believe that work is in progress to publish an update to the Photo app that lets you view your photos by folder. If you go into the settings on the Photo app, could you let me know what version number you see there?

Any software which uses the date for organising photos is a complete waste of time. E.g. I go on holiday to Egypt, so I want to have my photos in a folder called Egypt, just as I would have a print album with all the Egypt photos in it!

BUT, the big problem is that say I accept Touchsmart's way of having them in date order. I decide that I will at a later date post process some of my Egypt photos, improving contrast, correcting white balance, cropping, etc. Oh dear, now my photos taken in Jan 2007 in Egypt are in the June 2009 folder, but the ones I didn't edit are still in the Jan 2007 folder. Absolutely fantastic!

Regards,

Gordon

Yes - Hunterway you are absolutely correct! Please we need to organize photos by human titles not by date. I love Picassa but a free software should not be responsible for my photo organization when I have purchased a state of the art media center computer.

HP - PLEASE issue a patch to make this workable!
