Every once in a while my screen will show 3 horizontal bars equally spaced dividing it equally.  The top third will show the dispayed data and the botom two thirds will be black.  It seems it may happen when it comes back from sleeping or at start-up.  If I re-boot it will come back but it may take a few times.  If I have an external monitor connected then the external one is fine during this.  I also get a display error once in a while that blinks the screen but then recovers.  It says that the ATIKMDAG Display Driver failed but recovered.  Also it I turn the screen or do anything mechanical to aggravate things it will not cause this to happen.  It seems like a software or memory problem but I just don't know.  Other than this everything is fine and I love this machine!  This is an HP touchSmart Tx2-1025dx Notebook.  anyone else see this?  Any help is appreciated in advance.

I have the same issue. One reboot is usually enough to fix it.

Imagine if airliners had to shutdown as often as an HP PC to fix a problem. ;)

Have you checked HP's website for a more recent driver? You can also check ATI's website as well. I have the TX2500 (all the same as yours except the digitizer) and recently updated my machine with drivers from ATI's website.

Reboot is the only way to get it to work but it may take quite a few to do so. downloaded the ATI drivers with no help. Still lost and do not see anything on HP's online help that takes care of this. Still lost and using an external screen most the time so I can work!

Failing hardware due to overheat. Undervolting is a MUST on the TX2 and prevents all of this if you do it first thing after buying the machine before irreparable (gradual) damage is done to the hardware.

Zoobie,
Try this test on yout laptop, take out one of the memory modules form the memory slot and work your computer running with just one of the modules (swapping them to seeing if you get the error with one o with both modules), your problem might be caused by a bad memory module.

If thatdoesn't help you diagnose your problemy then I would have to agree with CyrenesFriend that either your machine has been damaged by the heat (even thou the TX2s run cooler than the TX1000s & TX2000s) or that you hardware is faulty.

How long have you had your machine, and what type of usage have you been giving it?( heavy usage or light usage??)

Hi all,

I'm having this very same problem. It's becoming very annoying to have to reboot (sometimes even 5 or more times) before I can use it in class for example. A couple of days ago it also happened when I closed the lid.. After closing an opening it again for a couple times everything was fine again. Looks like it's a hardware problem?
Couldn't really be a driver issue because it also (actually most often) happens immediately after switching the thing on.

Anyone got an idea? If it's really caused by damaged hardware due to overheating I'm going to have it sent back to HP for a new one and undervolt it immediately (which I'm not doing at all at this moment).

Hardware issue, send back unfortunatly. And undervolting isnt required since the F21 bios, but still a very recommended thing to do.
