Hey everyone. For the longest time, I've assumed that my smoothed out fingertips that resulted from guitar playing could not create enough friction on the mouse wheel. This, in turn then, would be the reason my finger slipped a lot while trying to turn it slowly. I just discovered though, that this isn't the case. The wheel is actually rotating, but for some reason I have to use faster movements on the wheel for it to make contact with whatever it is inside the mouse that gives that clicking sound and feeling and therefore registers movement on the computer itself (I apologize for my lack of knowlege concerning the inner workings of a mouse Tongue out). I'm not sure what I should do about this. It really can be a pain sometimes, especially when trying to switch weapons in games.

It could be that its worn out. If you are using it for gaming, then chances are that it probably is. O was never very impressed by the mouse that came with my touchsmart. I referred to it as the "Cheesey Mouse". I used it for about a month and switched to one of the Logitech laser mice and like it much better.

That said, if you go into control panel and mouse settings, there should be a setting for scroll sensitivity..or something like that. It can be set for one line, three lines or page. I'm not at my touchsmart now so I can't tell you exactly, but it should be something like that.

Thanks David. The problem was present from the beginning, though. Like I said, I assumed my finger was slipping, but it turns out that something inside the mouse is not catching. So it's not a sensitivity problem either, just hardware.
With your separate mouse, I'm assuming you put it in another USB port separate from the one that is used to pick up the keyboard and mouse that come bundled (in the middle of the machine on the underside almost)?

Correct, I used the logitech dongle and plugged it into one of the hidden usb ports behind the plastic cable cover. It didn't matter to me to use one of the ports as the othe goes to a powered USB hub and I still have the two ports on the side.

If you want to go totally with another brand wireless KB/Mouse combo, the HP dongle is hidden in a port under the front bottom edge of the computer. Its actually just another USB port.

Haha looks like I may need to invest in a USB hub then. I knew about the hidden port, and I was hoping to only use that and not another in addition to it (which, in retrospect, doesn't make much sense).
Thanks Dave!
