Good Morning,

I am glad I stumbled onto this website.

I am having problem with the touch screen on my IQ505. It works, but the cursor is no where nere where you touch the screen unless you touch in the bottom right hand corner then if you move your finger an inch the cursor moves 3 inches. Is there anyway to recalibrare the screen?

 Thanks,

Neil

Hi Neil,

Yes - there is a calibration tool you can use to try and fix this issue.
Go to Control Panel > HP Touch Screen Configuration.
Then click the Troubleshooting tab and you should see a Calibrate button. That's what you need.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply but it didn't work.

Sounds like it may be a job for HP support then, but before you call them just check the following:

I once had a similar issue, tracking of the touchscreen was off by quite a bit. In my case, it was caused by some gunk that had rested on the bottom edge of the screen (where the black edge of the case meets the touchscreen). Cleaning with a cloth cleared it.

Don't know if that's your problem, but it may be worth a quick wipe.

There is a hidden touchscreen configuration on the Touchsmarts that is much more accurate than the Hp Touchscreen Configuration in the control panel.

Tap the Scroll Lock key 5 times when on the desktop. This will cause the cursor to move to the upper left hand corner. Press hand hold your finger on the cursor's location untill you hear a long beep and release. The cursor will move to the upper right hand corner, repeat previous step. After you have done this in all four corners the cursor will move to the centre of the screen and the touchscreen will be recalibrated, accurately.

Additionally, the sencors for the touchscreen are located in either top corner of the screen, make sure they are unobstructed.

Target, you ARE the man!

i just spent some time with HP phone support trying to rectify similar touch screen issue, and after exhausting all other options they suggested, including the HP's recalibration tool, the touchscreen was still off. I was just about to do recovery back to factory image, and i figured i'll search this board for a solution. sure enough your method worked like magic. Saved me the hassle of backups and reinstallation of all my other software.

great success ;)

That's a great tip Target! We should work that into a help article on the site, and I'll give you the cred for the info.

Linda,

Take it out of the box and enjoy it! I got mine for Christmas and I can't stop using it.  I've yet to use it for anything productive, but the fun never stops.  I have installed my Bernina Embroidery Software though, the screen is too big and delicious not to love.

I do love this machine so far. It really does look like the Mac Book Pro and not as overpriced.

Can you provide more detail as to what is not working?  For example, is the calibration off or is it something else?

After I posted that message, I allready recovered the system twice, since after first recovery touch screen still wasn't working... After I did it for the second time it started to work but not every time I restarted the computer and also was not calibrated. I tried for several times to calibrate with calibration tool and allso with procedure posted above and still did not work... After a few days, as I was allready thinking to go to the service, I tried for the last time to calibrate it, with procedure mentioned above and it worked. At the moment the touch screen is working thanks to TARGET!!! But I have other problems, HP touchsmart software is not working good... for example there are only three big icons in the midle and none of smaller ones which should be on the bottom. But I think the problem is maybe in the USB-VGA adapter which I use for the second monitor. The adapter software and driver is actualy working allright but in specification it is not supposed to be running on vista Ultimate 64 which is installed on my Iq810de... What do you think...

thx. mare

Glad to hear touch is now working.

Sorry no guidance on using 2ndary monitors, as ours is in the kitchen.  So far comments are basic trouble shooting techniques that you may have already tried (such as eliminating one item at a time to see what happens).  Since you mentioned it, what if you uninstall the USB-VGA sw and don't use the adapter, does everything then display correclty on your touchsmart?

I do know that if a touchsmart app crashes during loading or duing usage then it gets removed from the touchsmart main page until you go into personalize and re-launch it (I believe this has been posted in other threads).   However this statment will only hold true for the touchsmart apps: Music, photo, video, calendar, notes, weather, RSS reader, and the browser.  It shouldn't be true for the shortcuts like solitaire.  Other items I can think about right now are making sure the the DPI value is set to the std 96dpi setting and that the display resolutions are set to support a 16:10 aspect ratio (min res supported is 1440x900).

One other wild idea: can you paste in a screen shot, this may help to shed some other clues?   (at least I think one can be added to the thread)

It seems like we have the same thoughts, so I have allready uninstalled driver for adapter and also unpluged it from computer. I restarted the system and everything works as it should. Now I don't know where to get appropriate driver for it... This is link to the adapter if you maybe have an idea...

I agree your english is very good.

Sorry but no clues right now other than trying to email the distributor/mfg about the availability of  a 64-bit drivers (which you may have already tried).  The only other idea right now I can think of is Google it, Google it and Google it.

oops forgot to add that if you can't find out who the mfg is, try installing the device on a sytem, then looking up the HW ID for the device. Once you have the HW ID, Google it and you may be able to track down which mfg actually built the device.  Then you can try contacting them about the possibility of a 64-bit driver. BTW... there have been times when a custom product is built for a company that the company tells the manufacturer to use a different HW ID than the one the mfg would normally use.  So this is still may not help you ID who the mfg is.
