I've been using my 816 for the past couple of weeks and am having a bit of an annoyance with the TouchSmart App.

In the native resolution of 1920x1200 my 40+ year old eyeballs have to work too hard to see everything clearly when using Windows. No problem I say, I simply change the 'Font size' setting from the default scale (96 dpi) to the larger scale (120 dpi).

Here's the problem, with the larger setting, when I enter the touchsmart the application doesn't fit on the screen, making the touch effectively useless, aargh!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

thanks, Rod

There is an update in the works that addresses this problem. It will be going through update testing in the next few weeks, so hang in there. It should be available soon.

Same issue here, I REALLY need to have larger onscreen fonts for an older GP, and when I try the quick and dirty way of doing 120 dpi, boom the TS application goes in the pooper

Depending on which programs or parts of programs you want bigger fonts in, you may be able to adjust individual programs' settings. You can also change some of the UI elements that Windows is responsible for, such as menu sizes, scrollbar sizes, window title bars and so on, using the Appearance applet in Control Panel. There's an update out on the HP Support site, called Touch Optimizer, that makes some of those Appearance changes in bulk to make things in Vista larger and easier to hit with a finger.

Adjusting the DPI can potentially be problematic, since some programs aren't written to be DPI aware. The HP TouchSmart shell in particular was not DPI aware in the initial two or three releases (depending on how you count), but like I said above, we have an update going through testing that makes it DPI independent. It should be available in a few weeks.

The latest information as far as I can tell is that there will be an update in the spring to eliminate TouchSmart's need for the 96dpi setting.
Also you can try holding the ctrl button and playing with the scroll wheel on your mouse while on the desktop, or in whatever window you'd like to increase the font size of.

I was looking to try to get the dpi UP to like 144 or something, I need for an older user to be able to see the screen better. Wow, spring, that is bunk!

Jessica, I'm not sure where you got the information, but spring seems a little far off/away.

I know it does.. I'm not too impressed with it either, but from what I know it's going to be included in the spring software update.

The DPI fix has been posted. It took a lot longer than I had initially thought. At the time of this post, the update is available here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-6835...
