We need to know what your purposes for the laptop are.
If you put it in power saving mode, then it is not too hot or noisy, but if you are planning to use it for any art programs, you will find no pressure sensitivity.
hi everyone, I wanted to buy 'tx2z 1000 cto' model for the purpose of using the upcoming Windows 7 ultimate version. but frm almost everywhere it is said that this model has excessive heat and inaudible noise from the cooling-fans. so I'm in dilemma now.
Somebody plz suggest me whether I should buy it or not. Thanks.
I have greatly enjoyed my purchase of this laptop, no regrets on it at all. With the undervolting application, fan noises and temps are down in normal working mode, and I dont find them to be too excessive when maxing the machine out.
I thought there is an art application that did touch sensitivity for the ntrig table, wasnt it sketchbook pro or something like that? I havnt used it as I do not do much artwork creation, but I have heard others mention it on these forums.

thanks, my primary purpose is to take note and then using as a touchscreen device with Windows 7. I don't need 'pressure sensitivity' at all
Then you will find it to be a good machine for your purposes.
Jollywombat, if that is your real name, mind linking me to a good undervolting faq, the ones I found use RM Clock, which does not seem to work with the processor.
how much heat it can absorb if I use the Targus Heat Defense Pad? http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computer/categories/specialty_products/1/a...
and plz let me know how durable this pad is?
Hello tx2z,
but frm almost everywhere it is said that this model has excessive heat and inaudible noise from the cooling-fans.
Well - I would have to lie when telling you that the tx2s are quite. Almost every other of today's notebooks is much more quite.
Compared to my old laptop (about 5 years old) it is actually quite.
However, in my opinion the noise is acceptable.
In idle, most of the time it is quiter than my computer (Intel Boxed Fan over a Q9550 and a 9600 GT). Under load it going in fact really noisy - it's still acceptable in my opinion.
Only thing that's really annoying: Under load the CPU has to decrease speed in order to not become too hot. So there is definitely something wrong with HP's cooling system.
One time it even froze during a DirectX application which may indicate a problem with the graphics card's cooling, too - but this is only speculation.
I am currently evaluating how undervolting solves these problems; see my thread for more information.
If you want it to "play around with" using mutitouch in Windows 7 it is definitely great; the panel reacts very fast and precise. Both mutitouch and stylus work simply great.
BTW: Windows 7 Ultimate? I think that's a little bit oversized for a notebook like that; Home Premium is totally enough.
Compared to my Compaq Dv6 model laptop, this unit is actually quieter than it, and also (doing normal tasks, nothing too excessive) more quiet than my co-workers units from Dell and Toshiba both of which are models from this year. Under full load, it is noticeable, but not what I would consider excessive for a laptop. IMO it is well within normal sound levels of laptops with its hardware specs.
All laptops out there perform the clocking down of CPU speed if the temperature starts to get excessive due to the varying conditions and environments that laptops are exposed to, this isn't something unique and defective about this laptops design. Its cooling is adequate for the cpu, and even better if you use one of the many undervolting programs that exist for these model of CPUs.
PrototypeNM1, (if that is your real name =p) The application I use for undervolting is "K10STAT - 64 bit version". It seems to work very well, and I have it setup as a system service so it applies when the computer starts up. I will post a link to a good thread discussing it and similar programs and how they function.
The only version out of windows 7 right now is ultimate for the RC's and Beta revisions. One it actually launches, then the normal model of "levels" for the operating system will be in effect.

If you delete the "ei.cfg" from the image, you will be able to install other versions.
I did and successfully installed Home Premium RTM so I will just have to enter the key when I receive it as a part of the Vista Upgrade Program. Otherwise, I would have to reinstall it as a downgrade from Ultimate is not possible IMHO.

Well - then, however, a powerful CPU gets quite useless, doesn't it?
Without undervolting (at 22°C room temperature) it reached the critical temperature (more than 95°C) within 5 seconds under load.
Other laptops I saw do not do this.
Hmm, good info to note, thanks for sharing that.
