If you're not going to dual boot or want any of the hp crapware, just install windows 7 from scratch, do a windows update to install drivers, download the ati windows 7 driver package, goto hp.com and download the hot key drivers, goto ntrig's website and download the windows 7 beta drivers (btw, if you use the pen a lot, ntrig's windows 7 drivers lag). The tx2 rocks with windows 7! longer battery life (it seems), faster startup/performance, etc. good stuff.
Hi All, Have just purchased a tx2 today, and am wandering what the best way to install win7.
I am just creating my recovery disks now..
My aim is to buy a new 500gb 7200rpm disk, as the one that came in it is 5200rpm. (I will keep the 5200rpm one as a usb drive)
I was thinking one of the 2 options.. which do you recommend..
1) Recover vista from recoery disks on new hd, clean bloat ware, then install win7 over the top..
or
2) Install win7 from scratch, then start installing drivers etc for it?
Which would you recommend?
Hello TSandu,
like Ceez I would also not recommend to update from Vista - this only causes unneccesary trash files on your harddrive and performance is said to be worse.
Do a clean install!
A 7200rpm harddrive? I planned to buy one, too.
In the shop, however, they did not recommend me to do so as most of today's laptops coming with a 5200rpm drive are not capable to handle the heat a 7200rpm drive causes. In addition, they said the performance is only about 10 percent better.
If you do a fresh install of windows 7 is there any way to download the HP touchsmart software interface?
The HP tx2 has an option of putting a 7200rpm drive from the factory. Its only the 320gb one, as the 500gb are new. Also the 500gb ones run cooler and appear to be faster then he 320gb vesions.
which driver is needed for the hot keys? cant find it on the hp site, and cant work out from the swsetup directory which one it is?
The hotkeys?
I am using this one and rotating the screen via the hotkey works: HP Quick Launch Buttons - SP 43616
