Hi all,
I've purchased this laptop about a month ago and I think it's rather decent, but I just don't like the heat and the short battery life. Well the problem with my 6cell battery is that it drains in 2 hours after fully charged and also if I unplug the powersupply, the battery drains about ~10% in a day or two of not using it. Another issue I found was that after my battery is fully charged, it drops from 100% to 94% in seconds. Anyways, how does your battery act? Do I have a faulty battery?

What power mode are you running in? I get about 2 hours with my 6 cell running max performance. About 30 to 45 mins more in balanced.
Is it the OEM battery that came with the tablet or one off amazon or ebay?

I'm running on power saver mode and the battery is the OEM one that came with the tablet. I bet I could only run like an hour or so with high performance considering the fact that the battery drains in 2 hours on low performance. I also emailed HP about this and the rep. tried to convince me that the battery should run only for 1.5hr under normal conditions..... seriously don't like HP support

That does sound like a faulty battery for going from 100 to 94% in the space of a few seconds. Whats your CPU use look like durring that time that it is on batteries for the ~2 hours? Actively using wifi the entire time? Video card being utilized for anything other than basic desktop/web display? Speakers in use?
As for it draining when not being used, is it in sleep mode or compleatly powered off? Sleep modes will still drain power even though it appears to be powered down.
On my 8 cell it depends what I am doing. I generally leave it in balanced mode and it is undervolted. My very rough testing gives me about 3-4 hours of .avi/mpg4 videos off the hard drive. Supppose I could actually time it though for tests in a more structured manner if need be.
I plan on doing a test soon in power save mode to see how long it lasts exactly (will change it to not put the display to sleep though). Perhaps have it loop a DVD or just use a program to generate ~10-30% CPU utilization to mimic minor word processing and easy web browsing.

I was just listening to music (speakers on) and with some very occasional web surfing. The cpu was about 0-20% with my test. I should do another test with high cpu usage when I have time.

Hmm, your battery is only 2 cells more than mine and your getting wayy more battery life than me. I heard the undervolt only gives about 30 minutes more. From the sudden drop of 100% to 94, I really think there's a cell that's not working properly.
Confirmed I can get ~3 1/2 - 4 hours on battery streaming movies over Wifi from a local server, max volume on the speakers. Can try it just from the hard drive as well to see how that affects battery life but I have a SSD which might skew the results compaired to those with standard HDD's.
Unable to test the battery drain when the unit is off, I use it too much to test that :)
Sounds like your battery is a bit dodgy though

I bought my HP Touchsmart tm2 last week and have charged the battery twice for full 12 hours. But the next time i switch it on, the notebook does not start without the charger plugged in and shows an orange low battery signal. I wanted to know if any one else is facing the same problem. why does the battery drain out in the off mode? Please help.
