I remember from some other threads that it might be a problem if you have special characters in the gmail password. That seems to sometimes cause syncing problems with the Google calendar. You might want to try changing your Google Calendar account password to something that has no special characters. I guess special in this case means all the ones above the number keys: !@#$%^&*()_+.
Also, it might be interesting to know what version of the HP TouchSmart Calendar you have. There should be a Settings button in Calendar and in there I think there is an About button. If you can't find it I'll have to verify for myself where exactly the buttons are.
I sure hope you won't put your fist through it. I think you'd hurt your fist pretty badly... :)

I'm going out of my mind with the TS Calendar application. I have seen a thread with part of the question I am going to ask but there didn't seem to be a solution. It was a while back so I am hoping something wonderful has happened since then....;)
I bought my TS a few months back but we have only just gotten around to setting up wireless and networking our many PC's around the house, and given this one is mounted in the kitchen I figured it would be perfect to have all our appointments etc on the calender - and be able to sync up my mobile to it all.
Now, I was of the understanding that this calendar automatically syncs up to the Windows Vista calendar? Am I wrong here? Because aside from the very first time I used it, nothing else has ever gone to or from the TS to Windows. So I gave up on that and decided to try and sync it to my gmail calendar instead. When I open the calendar and hit "sync now" it immediately gives me an error message that "Touchsmart Calendar has encountered a problem and will close down" - and thats it. The calendar removes itself from the screen and I have to go in and put it back. When I attempt to re configure the settings, there is no gmail option in the drop down on the right hand side where it asks you which calender you want to sync with - there is no option at all. And if I go ahead and enter all the required info in all areas, then hit "test email" it just hangs on "verifying username and password"...forever.
I have tried uninstalling the Calendar app and then reinstalling using the Restoration Manager - and I have applied the most recent update I can find. Thing is - when I reinstall the calendar, its not blank. It still holds all the appointments in it that I loaded earlier (?)
I think all the settings in gmail are correct because it is successfully syncing to Windows Mail and Outlook.
I'm not fussy - I will take it syncing to either gmail OR Windows Mail...either one will be fine. But none is making me VERY angry!!
I'm not a total computer expert so there MUST be something I am doing wrong here. Can someone help me before I put my fist through it? And I really don't want to do that....its so pretty....

I poisted a thread about how to sync the TS calendar, Outlook, gmail and my pocket PC. I use a program called syncmycal to do it. The freeware version lets you sync up to two weeks at a time. the full version is right around 25.00 I think. I'll look for the links to my post or just do a search on the site for any of my posts that mention syncmycal.

David I did see your post, but I was hoping not to have to pay to get the TS to do something I thought it was supposed to do on its own :( However it may be the only option should I remain unsuccessful!!! *sigh*
GeekTieGuy, I saw that thread about special characters too (i have searched high and low for a resolution to this) but I guess I figured a full stop wasn't a "special character" given most email addresses have one (!) so perhaps I can change the account name and try that.
The version is Touchsmart Calender 2.5.3267.30930 and the Google Version says 1.1.4.1.
When I have put the little one to bed this morning I will give it shot with an amended address and let you know how I go.
Any ideas about why the Windows Vista Calendar is not connecting at all? Thats the one I sync my phone to :(
I think the pain of putting my fist through it would be a welcome change to the frustration I feel of continually seeing my computer stuck on "verifying username and password" for hours on end... :) aaaagghhhhhh!!!!

OK...I tried setting up a new gmail account - this time with both address AND password with nothing but letters of the alphabet and still no joy. Same old same old. Still shuts itself down because it "Touchsmart Calendar has stopped working" and still hangs on verification.
I think the problem has something to do with the fact that there is NOTHING in that drop down box on the calendar settings page on the left hand side where it asks which calendar you want to sync to. Shouldn't Google be an option? Shouldn't there be SOME options? I have nothing in there at all...
The whole Vista Calendar thing is doing my head in too. If open the windows vista calendar I can SEE that it says "HP Touchsmart Calendar", yet it won't feed anything through.
Even my husband, who is considered somewhat of a computer nerd, has just asked me nicely to forget about it because it all looks pretty hopeless at the moment..:(

Right, there should at least be some options. I have the same version of Calendar, and I see Google, Windows and None in the sync options. I'm not sure exactly what the problem could be at this point. There is an Advanced button in the sync config screen where you can test just emailing with Google. Is that available on your system? Does it work?
Yep. If I go to advanced, I see Google in the SMTP drop down...but when I fill everything else out and test, thats when it wigs out...
I don't even have NONE on my first screen in settings. And I have no option to just try and sync the calendar on the first page without filling out the email notification info because Test Email is greyed out over there until I check the box to use the same details.

Right. Screen shots are probably not necessary. What worries me is that it seems to "crash" when you attempt to sync (and then the calendar tile goes away and you have to turn it back on). Does your Windows User Account have more than one word? Such as "Joan Smith" or "Family Account" (don't reveal your real full Windows account name, please, I don't need to know, neither does the rest of the Internet)? Or perhaps something other than just letters? I recently learned that, for example, an ampersand character in the Windows User Account name can cause a problem in the Notes program. I'm just wondering if the Calendar program has related issues.
Okay. So I guess now it's down to whether the calendar is confused about some of the data in the files it uses to store your appointments and stuff. Let's test that theory. I'm hoping you'll be able to follow what I'm about to say at a high level. If not, let me know and I'll try to get more detailed.
Shut down the HP TouchSmart software completely using the Close button (look closely at the Close button - it should have a full circle with a line inside it, not a circle that's open at the top with a line in the open space)
Now, using Windows Explorer, find the hidden folder C:\ProgramData\TouchSmartData and inside that folder, rename the Data folder to something like Data_Old
Then start HP TouchSmart again and go to the Calendar. Are the options for syncing back?
Actually, I just did that myself, and it looks like I gave you the wrong location in which to rename the folder. The calendar data actually seems to be in C:\Users\[User Account Name]\AppData\Local\TouchSmartData\Data\XML
So you'd need to rename the Data folder in that tree (or the XML folder, I don't think it matters which one, the Calendar should re-create an empty calendar if it doesn't find either folder). Then see if the sync options become available again on the next start of the Calendar in HP TouchSmart.
GTG...what can I say right now? You have just saved my sanity - (therefore my family's sanity - my husband especially thanks you!) and I no longer want to smash my beautiful TS to pieces.

It would be interesting to analyze your data files to see if there's a particular thing in them that causes the problem, but that might be too much to ask, not to mention that it might invade your privacy. If you can't/won't, I completely understand and you'll hear no further about it from me.
Ok...after many days of blissful syncing, all of a sudden my Google Cal is now only showing new appointments I enter to the TS and everything else has gone AWOL. If I do what GTG suggested last time (which worked beautifully) I am going to lose all my appointments because the TS is where I enter everything initially.
Any suggestions? I think its more a G Cal issue than a TS issue though..just thought I would see if anyone had the same issue and managed to resolve it..
