I noticed that when I wen from Vista to W7 that the fan was more controlled and the system didn't run as hotter, this was probably due to the new "balanced" power setting. Recently I've undervolted my CPU to reduce heat.
The buzzing sound might be your screen, turn the brighness down to 50%, then back up to 100%, does the sound get louder?
So I did some research on the touch screen and I decided to get one from best buy

I touch screen laptop is defiantly faster than my previous laptop and a lot smaller but there are some concerns and questions that I have.
1. Fan being too loud
a. I've read around and it seems when the laptop is connected to the power cord that the fan will be extremely loud. I literally think my mom’s hair dryer is slightly quieter than the laptop!!! I’ve read around and only could find that you can try reducing the amount of fan time being turned on in the bios. This doesn’t seem to make that much a difference to me, and it seems really loud! I wasn’t quite sure if anyone knew any custom software or so that can adjust the fan, or I’m just SOL and I have to deal with the fan issue since this portable touch screen is pretty good for the value as compared to the others on the market?
2. To many processes running in task manager at once
a. This is my first 64bit system so I’m not too aware of how exactly it runs. I’ve been dealing with 32 bit systems and I’ve never had over 60 or so process occurring at one time and I’ve had as low as 39 when using a 32 bit system. I tried reviewing the task manager in the 64 bit system and I’m not quite sure what exactly or how much I can actually go down to. I’ve seen up to as 99 processing occurring at once on this p.c and was wondering if anyone has reduced their processes drastically so that they have fewer than 60?
b. I find it quite sad that even Firefox will lag tremendesly when loading on this computer but on a single core laptop that is 3 years old has no lag issues at all.,
3. During the first 3 weeks of purchase the computer starting making some buzzing noises.
a. From what I read on certain forums on here and such it looks like it’s an issue with how they structured the motherboard of the system. I wasn’t sure if hp was going to consider recalling these systems, or this is considered “normal” enough to not bring any concerns.
Based on the specs of the laptop I would think the performance level to be a lot higher, but with all these programs and tasks occurring at once it really is hindering the full capabilities of the system. I was wondering if windows 7 is suppose to drastically correct all these issues if any. I hope that I can receive some feedback from users that has have had issues and have found solutions to them. Thank you for your time.
The slow speeds on the laptop and tons of random processes that are clogging up the system would probably be attributed to all the bloatware that came pre-installed on the laptop. You wouldn't believe all the crap that was put in there that has no use, and is just killing your system.
I would recommend making the HP recovery disks (incase you for whatever reason have to go back to a stock setup) then format the system and install either a fresh copy of Vista 64, or preferably Windows 7 64. Win7 has been great so far in testing, especially since it has native touch support instead of the hacked in version that was accomplished though the HP software in vista.
Your system speed and responsiveness will dramatically increase from this since there is no more bloatware and such.
I don't believe there is a way to control the fan directly through a software package, but there might be one I am unaware of. Make sure you have the newest Bios installed .F14 I believe as it helps with the fan noises and allows the fan to shut off while plugged in. I have not experienced the loud fan noises that some other users have complained about personally, perhaps I have gotten lucky but *shrug*
The other option is to use one of the many undervolting programs that exist out there and spend a day tweaking and testing to see what your particular processor is able to handle. It will greatly help with temps which in turn helps with fan noises, but also increases battery life due to less power draw.

Honestly, Windows 7 windows 7 windows 7. As mentiond by jolly... The preinstalled vista contains too much crap you dont need. If you dont like windows 7 or feel you wan to make use of the vista you paid for.. get hold of a genuine non branded windows vista disc.. your serial number on the bottom of the tablet will work with this and leave you with a fresh fast running laptop.
Good lucK!
