Howdy everyone! My First Post :)

I recently got my hands on my shiny new IQ846T system, and am loving it! Just got done customizing everything just the way i like it, and noticed something.... Windows update doesn't offer me SP2 as an update option.....

Is this blocked on purpose? Is it safe to Upgrade my system to SP2? I have read a few posts, and noticed the only problem really is the Webcam Not working anymore in the Touchsmart software....

Any push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Give it a couple days. When I restored my system recently I had to keep running windows update manually to get it to install all the updates. It took a little while but it finally showed up in the list.

You can also search for it on MS's site and install it that way. You may also want to check out HP's driver site for your model to see if they have any SP2 specific info. I think they did for my model, the IQ816.

Howdy!

Thanks for the answer! I have looked on the support page, and have not noticed any mention of SP2 specific info there. So far my Windows Update shows I have all updates, but SP2 does not show up. I know I can download it and install it manually, but am weary about what problems could arise from doing it! I really don't want to open up a can of worms unless necessary!

I hope someone with the same model as me can answer me soon with their own experience!

BTW I love this community! I find myself contantly here browsing around and reading the wealth of information on this site!

The only reason SP2 doesn't show up in Windows Update is that Microsoft "trickles" out SP2 so not all machines in the world download the massive package at the same time automatically. They stagger things to help the servers keep up.

Really? Only reason I brought this up was becuase i have other Vista machines at home, 2 of which I built recently, and as soon as I started the updates, SP2 showed up immediatly for them! I do a lot of repairs, and I know Microsoft supressed SP2 showing up on certain machines with certain configs due to compatibility issues. I was thinking perhaps there was something on this machine that could potentially bork up the SP2 installation.

I guess that could be the case. I'm not aware of anything on the machine blocking SP2, so anybody's guess may be correct.

Well if I gathered right, you are the resident Touchsmart guru! Have you heard or know of any potential problems applying SP2 to the Touchsmart?

I remember reading one post aobut how SP2 changed the friendly name of the webcam, causing it NOT to work in the touchsmart software...... Things like that is what I want to be aware of!

Thanks so far for the attention to my thread!

The webcam thing is the only problem I'm aware of, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be others. And I've heard rumors that the webcam problem only seems to happen on some systems.

Alright, it seems that I might give SP2 a go then...and hope it doesnt break things like all hell :) The webcam issue...has that been resolved, or is one of those things I'll have to live with if it breaks? I would assume reinstalling the drivers might resovle any issue?

Thanks for your responses!

There are no drivers to reinstall for the webcam. It uses native Windows drivers.

There is no official fix for the webcam issue yet.

I was going to put something together, but I'm waiting for people who are willing to test my homegrown fix to send me a private message indicating they are willing to help. So far nobody has seemed to find the issue bad enough to contact me (or they're not willing to help test, which is fine.)
