I did a stress test on my Tx2z and it reached 97 degrees!

Both cores at 100% usage and using undervolting technique.

What are the max temps that some users out there have reached? I know the thing gets hot, but are these temps normal?

98-99C without undervolting and stressing the processors.

On a normal basis, it runs somewhere in the ballpark of 73C.

Yeah, on balanced mode, mine hovers between 60 and 70 degrees.

But damn, 97 degrees!

Yah, the AMD Turions run pretty hot =s

What's the max temp these things go before it starts to cause some serious damage? Does it have an auto cut off temp?

Yeah, it will under clock once it gets to a certain degree.

People complain about the heat and noise. The newer tx2 models produced and delivered after mid-August 2009 have far less heat and noise even with high power. You can comfortably put them on your lap for long hours.

The new ones are snappier, run much cooler (less heat as I said), and they don't sound like a blow dryer. A six-cell battery now lasts a decent 3 hours. HP have learned from earlier batches and rectified all these issues.

They just updated the bios, it seems to run 10C cooler now on average, the fan now occasionally revs up. I did update to W7 at the same time though.

i'm not sure about the heat n noise issue fixing by HP but they have upgraded(!) the basic price of this model a bit than August 2009

The new Win7 F.21 bios does NOT undervolt the CPU, but it seems it manages the CPU and GPU (throttling) as well as the fan in a better way. If you have an earlier tx2 you would still benefit from undervolting after the F.21 bios update by using a CPU undervolting utility running as a Windows service.

As long as it stays under 100°C there shouldn't be any damage - see http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Turion%20X2%20Ultra%20ZM-84%20-%20TMZM84...

My tx2 starts at 95°C by switching to P1.

Can you link to where you read this from?

I upgraded from F.12 to the latest, F.21 I think, and have not noticed any difference yet. Upgrading from Vista to W7 thought, I did notice a difference.
