Hi forum, first time poster here and in a spot of bother.

I bought one of these expensive IQ500 machines when I saw it recently and played around with it and was generally very pleased with my purchase. However being a little impatient and having just tried out Windows 7 on another laptop and loving it I decided to upgrade to the Windows 7 RC version and then had the tricky drivers hunt. So having upgraded Vista I now decide I would switch back and wait for the proper release from Microsoft.

My problem is that after the upgrade I dont have the HP Backup and Restore Manager available. I guess it is in the 'Windows Old' that was created after the upgrade. I can see my 12GB Recovery Partition but unfortunately did not create any Recovery discs so i'm wondering where I go from here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Reboot and hit F11 to access the Recovery Partition-based recovery process.
That will then let you do a full recovery to like new, and that should also let you make a Recovery set when you're done

Let us know if that doesn't work, you may need to buy a set from HP, they're usually under $30

Hi Diane

Thanks for the swift answer...unfortunately F11 does nothing for me. F9 and F10 do what they are supposed to but pressing F11 gives me a short delay then a boot up into Windows.

drat!
There was that possibility.
Good news is that it's very affordable to get the set from HP, usually under $30, I'd strongly recommend it, you can't go wrong.

I've also found that I prefer the HP manufactured sets over my home made ones simply because stamped CD/DVDs last almost forever, burned, not as long..

Arty,

Win7 will run, and run quite well on the touchsmart. Theres some discussion in the "groups" section in the forum about how to get all the drivers and the touchsmart software to work. I'm doing it all on my IQ 816.

In the Win7 group forum there is a very small link at the bottom right of the very last post to show older posts. Click on it to see all the posts. Pay attention to the one that "ehuna" posted. He has some great info about how to get things running.

Also, All is not lost regarding the restore CD's. Go to HP's support site and search for your model in the drivers section. There is a link for ordering the DVD Recovery set. I think I paid like $20.00 (US) to get the recovery set shipped to me in 3 business days.

Regarding "F11", are you using the HP keyboard or another one? Try the HP KB if you are not.
