You may have one of the harddrives that has a known firmware issue. This update is supposed to help resolve that issue: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-6833...

However, I'm not sure if this update will work once the harddrive gets into the bad state. You may need to contact HP support for in-depth help.

Thanks Geek, HP said that I need to replace my hard drive so do you have any idea a'b what the hard drive I should replace ?

The only requirement is that you need to get a SATA drive. How big and from which manufacturer is up to you. If your machine was in the warranty period, you might be able to get a replacement from HP Support.

Replacing the drive takes some skill. You need a "Phillips"-head screwdriver and dexterity for opening the chassis. Also, you should have a surface with a soft cover (such as a towel) to place the IQ500 on to avoid scratching the front of the machine.

Here's a PDF that describes the replacement steps: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01490909.pdf

I'd say either one should be fine. I wouldn't go below 500 GB.

What do you think a'b this ?

Honestly, I don't know. Also, if I make any kind of specific recommendation, and it doesn't work out, I don't want to be the one who sent you down the wrong path. So I'm afraid I can't help in the decision.

Maybe some other folks here have experience with that particular drive and can give you opinions.

It's a perfectly fine drive.. you can't go wrong with any of the drives from any of the major manufacturers

Well, I reseated a new hard drive and it's still not working then I tried to switch between HDD port and CSDRW port to see the SATA port fail or something and the result is the power slot of HDD that not worked b/c the HDD port is working with a CDDRW.

Any idea to fix the power slot of HDD ???

Thanks

I don't remember if there is another SATA port on the mobo that you could switch to. And it's pretty challenging to take the unit apart far enough that you can see the mobo. So I'd recommend having the unit serviced by a professional.

There is another SATA power port on the EVE mobo (like my 507) it sits right next to the hdd power port ... there might be on Maureen, I haven't had my wife's 526, can't verify that one.

Note I just edited this from no to yes because I went and looked at my pix on photobucket after thinking about it... please look at this photo to see where I am referring (far right side of pic)

a look at the mobo
