Well, you could:
A: Do it in itunes, there's nothing stopping you, and Touchsmart supports it.
B: You can do it in Windows Media Player, etc

There are multiple ways to do it, and the key is that you store the art inside the MP3 itself, and that's usually done when you rip it or purchase it.

Your media player of choice outside of the TouchSmart interface should be able to help you in adding artwork, then the Touchsmart player will read that artwork.

In iTunes, just copy and paste the album artwork into the little display area on the bottom left (where the artwork displays). Copy the image into your clipboard and then right-click on the display area and choose Paste. I typically get my album covers from Amazon.

But be aware that updating the artwork in iTunes will NOT update the mp3 file itself. To update the file itself, I use AudioShell, a free extension for Explorer that adds the ability to edit MP3 tags from Explorer. It's a slick and very handy tool.

Sorry, I'm using 32-bit Windows 7 and I don't know of any 64-bit plug-ins.  I'm sure a Google or Bing search would find something.

I'm still surprised at the statement about itunes not embedding the artwork, it has multiple things it does, and as far as I've always experienced, one of the items is indeed embedding the artwork.

There's also a ton of applications out there dedicated to this issue, AVSoft's Album Artwork Fixer can do a lot, but it can also do a lot of damage if used carelessly.

The issue is that iTunes uses its own proprietary database to store information on the songs it has.  So when you update a song's artwork, the update is made to the iTunes database, NOT the actual MP3 file.  That's fine if you always use iTunes and only iTunes, but if you use any other media player, or plan to copy the MP3 file to another computer, it's not so good.  So I always like to update both iTunes and the actual MP3 file itself.
