I believe i have a hardware issue with my internal microphone on my IQ815.

Sound properties in the Control Panel show the device with full green bars even with the room quiet.  When i select 'listen to device' i hear static although if i tap on the microphone array at the top of the screen, i can hear that too.  I have updated the soundmax drivers to 6.10.2.7255. (5/18/2009)

People on skype complain that they can barely hear me and it sounds like i am on a runway.  I am running windows 7/64 , but it was happening on vista as well.

I thought about disassembling and checking the array's connections to the board.

Any Ideas?

I have the same issues. Did you find a resolution?

Sort of,

After troubleshooting with hp support, it was declared a hardware failure.. Sent computer into hp and they promptly formatted the hard drive, and sent it back to me. (GRRRRR). Sent it back to HP and this time they changed the webcam/microphone array formatted the hard drive and sent it back. Did not fix the problem.

The problem is on the embedded sound card or motherboard as sound recorded from both the line-in port and the microphone array is effected.

Decided not to send it in a third time. i just bought a headset with a built in usb soundcard.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably give the same thing a try. I don't want the hassle of sending it in.

Hi, I've just joined the forum as I also have a skype/mike problem. Lots of background noise and my skypeee can't hear my voice for the constant high level white noise. Thx for the advice. I think I will also save myself the hassle of sending it in for repair.
Could you recommend a good USB Headset with built-in soundcard.

thx in advance

As an update I ended up going into the settings for the SoundMax. Once there I got to the "Recording Experience" section where I ticked the option for "No Audio Enhancements". It's worked fine since then (about 3 weeks).

Leslie, you are a gem. That was the solution and I've been fighting with it for weeks. I've de-installed and installed new drivers and searched the web up and down. thankyou very much for that ;-)

So glad to know it worked for you too!

yeah ... thx again. I don't want to take advantage but :) ... do you have much experience with the touchsmart TV function. I figured that I would need an s-video cable from my sat receiver (scart) to the touchsmart. Any tips ?
