I purchased my Touchsmart TX2 in August 09 and the fingerprint reader worked great.   About a week ago, both Windows Vista logon and DigitalPersona will not detect the reader.  Device manager says it is working properly.  I've tried uninstalling the drivers for the reader and reinstalling, but to no avail.

I don't know what else to do...

Try compleatly removing the AuthenTec software from the computer (uninstall from control pannel remove programs) and also remove the driver from the system then using the device manager. Reboot. Then install the driver from the HP website for Vista (insert 32 or 64 bit here).

Thanks! That did it.

Where is the fingerprint reader? Mine includes the finger-print reader on the spec-sheet, but I haven't seen it.

It was an addition you had to pay for. It's on the right hand side of the screen, looks like an indented bronze bar.

Isn't this kind of small to be a fingerprint scanner?

the scanner is on the right side of the screen in the middle. Some of the earlier models didn't have it. My sub-model is the 1275-dx

Nope, they are typically always very tiny when included in consumer laptops.

I am in the same boat, I have a tx2-1015ea with fingerprint reader, and I can't get it to be recognised in windows 7 RTM. I'll be fiddling from time to time and post if I get anyway...

I finally got DigitialPersona to work on windows 7.

I followed this process http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100102210603AAbjuuY

The scan for software updates button wasn't in actions, but as a separate button on the top. When i pressed that it started scanning for the driver via windows update. You have to tell it to skip that so it uses the old driver. Hopefully that helps

The windows update driver for it works fine. You dont have to tell it to skip it. Just ensure you have the latest Digital Persona software.

I used these instructions as well. Saved my rear end. Well... I didnt really need the reader, but why not have it all work, no?

HP Tx2-1250DX
Win Vista (Bah!)
Win 7 (Mucho better!)

Anyone want to have a gander at why Windows can use my scanner....but Digital Personal cannot detect it?
