I've seen with the new touchsmart they are going to have some cool software like a recipe box, etc.  Does anyone know if these will be available to download on the old touchsmart machines?

Some will, some won't. You will have to update your machine to Windows 7, though. HP is not going to support the version 2.x software on Windows 7 or the 3.x software on Windows Vista.

Please check the support page for your model on or after Oct 22 and look for Windows 7 software updates.

I installed Win 7, updated all HP application to their most up to date version...

Recipe Box is not availiable for download currently on the download page of my computer model (IQ526).
I found it though here : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?cc=ca&dlc=fr&...

Installed it : all OK.
Problem : It just won't lunch! First, it does not appear on the TouchSmart shell application... and if I browse to find it, and lunch it from RecipeBox.exe, nothing happens!
Called HP support : no idea where the problem could be. Theory is that it is because I have the french version of Windows... or because i'm from Canada(Like Hulu won't work in Canada), or because RecipeBox might only work on the new series.

P.S. I upgraded to Win 7 through Microsoft directly, not by HP upgrade plan(not qualified by a week).

If someone have similar problem, or are able to run it, please share it!

[have you also updated all other applications to the 3.0 version? Especially the main touchsmart application?

Everything is updated according to the HP Win 7 Download page.

The Recipe Box app is not part of the Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade path. Installing the package you downloaded on a IQ5xx and IQ8xx after upgrading to Windows 7 has not been tested and is thus most likely not supported by HP. The only supported Windows 7 upgrade apps are the 3.0 versions of the apps that came with the IQ500/IQ800 models. If other apps happen to work, consider it a free/lucky "bonus".

Then I'm out of luck. Canadian have fewer apps (like Hulu wich is US only)... and since I have the french version, lots of apps are not recognize! I only have Notes(which still bugs because I have an "&" and spaces in my windows username), the browser and the update app.

Heres a thing... Why apps simply won't work on my computer just because of the language? I'm use to it... windows is in french... dans 50% of my program is in english. I don't care to have the wheather app in english. Why is it blocked? How could I mod it to work?

And for the Recipe Box App. I understand that the file I download is probably an update only file then : meaning that only IQ 600 gets the installer... But again, Why? It is a small application, il works on any version of Windows 7 : then why not give it to anyone!

It's not a rant, though I am a bit disapointed. I'm able to work around the lack of software : but having touch-friendly app isn't easy. It is really sad to see that applications made for the TouchSmart only works on "some" TouchSmart.

So I would want to make my english-only app work on my french machine : what should I do (I can't revert my windows to English... once the choice is made, you can't get back...).

Thanks!

Believe it or not, it has to do with accounting rules. HP can decide to make new software available on new systems, but can't necessarily make it available for free on older systems. That's just how it is. Until accounting rules change. The weather app is a little more complicated. Someone has to pay for the traffic that the weather app generates on the web service. If the weather app were available worldwide, it would cost a lot more to provide that service. And once you've bought the machine you can use the service for a long time without additional payment. So a one-time payment has to cover keeping the service up for a long time.

But I though that the wheather app was locked due to the language : not region. I though other canadian could use it : if they can, then why not me? If I would have been smart enough to set windows in English, I would have had acces to it wouldn't I? If it's US only, then it's my bad. I know that Hulu is locked by a per IP basis(using your IP to get if your from US or outside) and Wheather was language locked because it just wasn't translated. Maybe I'm wrong for the wheather app.

If other Canadian users can use the Weather tile, that's actually a bug. It's supposed to be only usable in the U.S.

If someone outside the U.S. has the Weather app working, maybe they can share with you how they got it working.

I just visited the touchsmart home campaign web site, there are supposed to be free touchsmart games and a free touchsmart application. When I follow the links where it says "Free download", they are there but need to buy them for $8.95 - kills me how HP can get away with it lol - I see this as fake advertising, they could wind up in trouble..

There are free trials available if you follow the links.
I think everyone hates it, but there's no "bait and switch" here, there really is a free product at the links, just not a free full product.

And HP should state that these products are NOT full free programs, but basically TRIALS that require payment to purchase the full product. It may not be "bait-n-switch" but it is misleading and a practice many websites have since refrained from doing because the shady tactic behind simple wording. Customer loyality is so fierce these days that even little things like this may create negative word-of-mouth advertisement, the most powerful form of advertisement in our market.

Then again, I'm sure we all know this but I was just pointing it out for the masses.

But then they're also WildTangent games, I wouldn't install them even if you paid me!

I got my first Touchsmart last night. An iq506 and the first thing I did was clean install Windows 7. Got a few of the 3.0 things installed then tried installing recipe box and it worked!!! Not sure what I did but it just worked. So then I tryed canvas and notes and I was unsuccesful :( I think it is a problem that the tiles don't get added into the touchsmart 3.0 program some how because recipebox won't launch from the exe like the othes but it will if I execute it from within 3.0

Anybody else have any other progress on the this?

I tried adding it in TouchSmart shell application. It adds well, but won't lunch. Which installer of RecipeBox did you use?

I am new to this forum. Just got the Touchsmart 600-1055 for 1 week from BestBuy here in Toronto, Canada. Does NOT come with the Recipe Box! Phoned technical support at HP, they said that they don't know about thhis. They are just there to solve problems but not to explain why my computer doesn't come with certain software. He suggested that I should email the CEO, which I did. I honestly feel that I have been short changed. Went into the Canadian HP site and can only download the update software on Recipe Box but have not been able to execute it. I believe this is just an update as they have indicated and not the full version. Neither does my computer come with Twitter or Netflix. What a bummer. If someone knows how I can get the Recipe Box installed I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Ohhh don't get me started about BEST BUY ...

Maybe you can return it.. Make certain it's within 14 days Check to see if it's an issue because you are in Canada. Perhaps HP has a different version for the Canada market.

Best wishes ....

We also just got the Touchsmart 600-1055 from BestBuy here in Canada to replace a 6 year old kitchen computer. It did NOT come with the Recipe Box (which is the sole reason we chose this thing in the 1st place)! Phoned technical support at HP, they also said that they don't know about this and put me through 2 days of downloading and reformat hell, all to no avail. The machine and windows 7 (as a pleasant surprise)seem to work well enough; now it's the HP software and support that provide the old familiar "new computer frustration".
Why HP wants to shoot themselves in the foot this way is beyond me. We're thinking of taking the machine back to BestBuy in hopes of a refund.

Disappointed,
You bought it at Bestbuy right? Did you not take the time to check out all the features or did you just run in and buy it based on Recipe Box? Granted, if BB had it displayed with Recipe Box running I would be a bit upset as I would have expected it to be included.

i'm assuming that you downloaded the receipe box update for your model TS 600-1055 right? Did that install successfully or does it fail?
