I am not one of those hdtv heads that knows about aspects ratios, etc.  Just using regular sat. from DirecTV (no HD), and wondering if there is a way to make the live tv pricture take up the full screen?  Right now I have black bars on the left and right of the picture and it is not full size.

Are you using an external box for your DirectTV that runs to your computer? If so, there should be a way to tell it that your tv is widescreen. I have cable so I am not sure.

There is an "aspect" button on the remote control that came with your Touchsmart. Hit it.

Because it is not in HD, it does not take up the full screen. Standard def doesn't support widescreens, hence the black bars. As Target said, you can change the aspect ratio - the only downside is that it will distort the picture. You can either stretch the picture (which will make everything look shorter and wider) or you can zoom in (which will cut off some of the top and bottom).
