Sadly, the above does not address the cursor jumping around on the screen while browsing the internet, and certain applications, including games.
What does stop it is completely disabling the digitizer. I've actually resorted to placing a device manager shortcut on my desktop for it.
I'm assuming(hoping) HP is smart enough not to ship the 2.59 drivers to the eligible upgrade customers. So I wait with baited breath that new ntrig drivers will show up for download any day.
First of all, there are plenty of other threads for ranting about this issue, this one is speciffically for fixes. Please take your complaints (much as I like reading them) elsewhere.
Secondly, this is actually two similar issues and I'll be describing both of them.
First is the "dark screen" jumping many users have experienced. This is caused (most likely) by a video memory conflict which happens when a dark image takes up the majority of the screen. When watching a movie (which often fades to black triggering this issue), it is best to temporarily disable pen input. To do this in Windows 7:
1. Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> N-Trig DuoSense(tm) Digitizer
2. Select 'touch only' Hit apply and okay.
(in the current version of the driver, touch only, pen only and auto are supported)
You can use the same process to change back to dual mode (default).
Second, there is a similar but different issue where leaving Windows running for extended periods of time or closing and opening the lid will cause a random "unprovoked" jumping of the cursor. This is, in fact, the touch cursor and not the pen cursor jumping and is slightly different to disable.
1. Start menu -> Control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Pen and Touch
2. Select the 'touch' tab.
3. Uncheck 'Use your finger as an input device.' Click apply and okay.
This will NOT disable the pen digitizer, only the touchscreen. Alternatively, restarting Windows will also fix this issue. Cause is as yet unknown but it seems linked to the screen turning off.
NOTE Both procedures can be performed to effectively disable the N-Trig hardware all together (useful for times when you're so ticked off that you wish N-Trig wasn't involved at all). Uninstalling the N-Trig software also alleviates the problems (so I remember), however this will remove all multitouch functionality and drag scrolling.
