Greetings:

I have been considering purchasing a TouchSmart desktop for the work area of my kitchen for about 6 months.  Now that the new models have been announced, I am ready to make the plunge, except that I find myself torn between the new model and the outgoing model, something that I have never in my life as a gadget freak experienced.

The new 600 is 23 inches, while the iq800 series is 25.5 inches.  It appears that the only hardware differences are

  1. an adjustable webcam;
  2. HDMI out; and
  3. built-in VESA compliance for wall mounting.

So, the difference in software is all that really separates the two. So, if you can install Windows 7 and download the updated TouchSmart software, why wouldn't you choose the larger iq800 series today?  I don't see any reason not to other than these three minor distinctions.

I would greatly appreciate any efforts to enlighten me.

The 800 is VESA wall-mountable too. Comes with a VESA mount adapter.

The 600 is HDMI IN, not out.

If you have room for the height of the 800, and you don't mind installing the Win 7 upgrade and software yourself, go for the 800 while they are still in the market.

Thanks! So is it true that there is no change in touchscreen technology between the 600 and iq800? My concern is that there is some kind of subtle difference that will matter under Windows 7 that will frustrate me somehow.

Thanks again!

There is a difference in touch hardware that should enhance the touch experience on the 600. It's hard for me to qualify if it makes a big difference.
