So laptop components are getting upgrades left and right. When are the processor and RAM upgrades coming for the Touchsmarts. I orignally bought a 800 series, but sent it back after it encountered some errors. Intead of another one, I simply built a system.

I love the platform and think it has a lot of potential. But seriously, why does it still only have the option of Duo core, and not a quad core or even I7 mobile option?

The graphics card upgrade is nice, but why not in a 25" version. I think HP is really missing out on a lot of potential customers by keeping options limited.

Any thoughts? Any news?

It does not get a hardware upgrade and in generally gets not too good hardware because:

1. These machines are not made to be gaming consoles, these are media PCs and what they have inside is enough for playing media.
2. The screens themselves are expensive enough and if they wanted to get really good CPUs etc. they would end up with a price no one would be willing to pay. Exactly the same as it happened with Sony RT series of all-in-ones being sold for well over $3000, or rather not bring sold.

But why not offer a spendy model that someone can upgrade and have built to order? It's not like the labor of installing a quad core is more intensive or more expensive than a dual core.

They just came out with a model featuring a decent 1gig graphics card, yet they keep putting in there dual cores. Even Hp's laptops are starting to shy away from those.

Like I said, it may be a more expensive option, but they are missing out on a niche in the market of those who want a Touchsmart computer, but with more oomph than is currently offered.

I believe that they are too afraid to take the risk of bringing even more niche model as it will not have too many buyers but still requires some work.

Remember that CPUs are not on their own, they need the right motherboard to work. changing the motherboard from one model to a different one is not easy or free.

Yes, but I honestly doubt they're using motherboards that are custom designed for the Touchsmart. They have the components available, they just aren't offering the option which I believe is a mistake. Thats why they should offer it as built to order, and charge accordingly.

If you have the Maureen motherboard you can upgrade the CPU yourself. Any Pxxx or Txxx CPU will go in and I bet there is no need for a quadcore.

Why do you see no need for a quad core? I guess I'd rather spend a few grand and buy a computer for tomorrow rather than get technology that is evening being phased out today. Why have such an innovative feature go mainstream ( the touch tech) and not combine it with other hardware to suite. Thats like throwing an early 2000 car engine into a 2009 BMW or something.

It has already been stated on this forum a lot of times:

TouchSmarts are not made for gaming, you have bought the wrong machine if you wanted it for that!

This is a Multimedia computer not a gaming computer.

So when most other computers are going to quad core or better processors, its okay for Touchsmart to remain with the hardware they have? When then did they offer a model with an upgraded Video Card? They appear to slowly be upgrading hardware, my question is, why have they yet to give us a better processor option.

FYI, multimedia involves a HUGE range of varying programs, some of which have far greater resource demands than a computer game.

What other computers? 17"? Laptops that cost more than the 25.5 touchsmart? Definitely not those laptops sold for under $1000. And we need to take laptops into consideration because TSs are based on laptop hardware.

Haha, on the p7450 I watch bluray movies with no problems, are you talking about winamp or what other application that needs that much power? For media we have photos, music and movies, which of them require so much processing power?

Well thank you for the information. Obviously you dont concur that HP should offer a higher-end model of their system that features more up to date hardware. Just because Touchsmarts are geared towards user multimedia (as opposed to developer) doesn't mean they need to be. They have an incredible platform, and I honestly think its stupid they haven't tried to expand that to higher-end computer users.

It would be great to get better specs, but I believe the better specs would only make TSs too expensive and I myself would not buys a computer for $3000 or more and that would be the cost if you wanted a quad core cpu and all.

Remember that HP is making these to sell them and they realize that if they make them too expensive no one will buy them.

Well, I am not suggesting they make all of them to the max specs. Just like now, they have a variety of versions, ranging from less than 1k to 2200+ dollars. Why not just take that extra step and give us a bit more oomph as an option? Make an 800 performance series or something. I think its stupid that I'd have to go with a smaller screen to get a comp with a better graphics card.
