So I upgraded to Windows 7, all touchsmart applications installed and tried to use the bluray player to watch a movie and received the dreaded "FORMAT NOT SUPPORTED" error message. I have the latest version of Media DVD for Touchsmart (SP44403) and the error remains. Did anyone find a resolution to this, and more importantly, has this been officially reported yet? I'm on the IQ846 model.

 Please advise.

Seems to be a problem on HP's end.

I experienced this issue also on my HP desktop PC. I talked to HP support and they said this happened because I did a clean install of Windows 7, and that deleted some Cyberlink driver/decoder that needs to be there to read/play Blu-ray discs. HP Support then said that the Cyberlink Blu-ray decoder software is only licensed for Vista, so they could not provide me with a Windows 7 version of this. Only computers that came with a Windows 7 upgrade coupon received the free Windows 7 version of this decoder software.

Have you figured out a work around? My next plan was to test PowerDVD 9 Ultra trial from Cyberlink just to prove my machine will play Blu-rays still in Windows 7. And then, I guess I'll probably just have to buy the software from Cyberlink.

Although, I noticed that I could purchase a blu-ray DVD drive from Newegg.com for $40 less and it comes with a copy of PowerDVD8 which supposedly can be upgraded to 9 for free: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106325
