I have been using the the final release client of 7 since it was released. But I could never make it my primary OS (dual booted with Vista premium) because of few "glitches" that it had with my 506t.

 1. Side buttons do not work

 2. Onscreen volume/mute indicator doesn't work

 3. Screen off keyboard shortcut doesn't work

 4. Widgets have odd behavior. Sometimes appear cutoff or can't be moved freely around the desktop

 5. Speakers suffer miserably compared to vista (I'm sure a driver issue).

I have downloaded all the latest and greatest drivers, but none have fixed any of these problems. Is it because I'm using the RC? I just wanted to be sure before I plunked down the money for retail and still have the same problems. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have had windows 7 ultimate on miine for 3 weeks now and I have none of the problems you are reporting.

RC is NOT final version, RC is release candidate and it has been patched a lot to become RTM which was the final version sent to computer manufacturers.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably snag it on my lunch today.

You were right everything works great. All the issues I had prior have all been fixed. Except for the speakers. I'm gonna have to look into that one.

I got Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed on my computer. It runs smooth in comparison to Vista. It's been very stable and doesn't crash while running software or watching TV. The logging in/out of users account is a bit buggy though. It'll hiccup while logging you out and doesn't actually give you options/time to force close programs that are still running. It just assumes you want to force close everything and logs you out quickly. Which is fine cause clearly they're programs you were going to force close anyway(AIM, MSN, IE, iTunes, Skype).

1. The side buttons don't work if you have a non HP keyboard with sound controls for some reason. It's not Windows 7's fault. It's HP that should work on giving us good drivers. I think so anyway.

2. The onscreen volume/mute indicator does work

3. Don't really understand what you mean here

4. The widgets run flawlessly

5. Speakers work great

Windows 7 got rid of that bad taste Windows Vista left in my mouth. I was running XP Media Center edition before finally upgrading to a newer OS. I think you'll really like it. Virtual PC and compatibility mode work great for older software made for XP or Vista. Don't be afraid of upgrading to Windows 7. It's a good OS.

You have to install the HP keyboard/button drivers for the buttons to work. The drivers can be downloaded from HP's support and drivers site. The name is a bit misleading because it makes you think its for the keyboard but it is also for the side buttons as well.
I have ALL the original features working on my Touchsmart with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. (Signature edition from my Launch Party)

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!

Yup. I have everything working great. Inculding the speaker issue I was having. I have the new touchsmart software, which I must say I don't like as much. Mainly for the fact I can't resize the tiles, and the touch scrolling is no where as smooth as it used to be. But the addition of Twitter is nice.

I also have the Windows 7 Touch Pack installed. Surface Collage and Surface Globe are my two favs. My 506t runs great now. Loving Windows 7. When we have guests my TouchSmart receives more compliments than my roommates 24" iMac. It secretly makes him jealous, because he ravs about his machine so much, but he will never admit it.

Thanks for the help guys.
