I find the default monitor brightness too much so lower it with the function keys. Problem is the setting I leave it on doesn't persist after reboot - intermittently it just resets itself to full on stare-into-the-sun brightness. Am I doing something wrong or is it yet another HP D'oh! moment?

(PS wasn't sure if this is a hardware or software thing so please forgive the cross post).

Hm...I'm not by my TS at the moment to try it out, but you might try this (it works on laptops):

Go to Start->Control Panel

Click 'Classic View' on the left and open 'Power Options'. On the left there is an option to adjust monitor brightness.

Like I said, I don't know if it is there on the TS since it is a desktop, but you might give that a try.

Oooh thanks, that seemed to do the trick - hopefuly this won't reset itself like the cursed touchscreen beep is wont to do.

I have learned that the TS is set up much like a Laptop. I have owned a Portege Tablet for awhile and have gotten used to the little extras on XP Tablet edition that seem to all be implemented on the TS. I am still getting used to Vista. I remember I hated XP when switching from ME but learned to love it. It's a little like that. I think Vista is slowly growing on me.
