Personally I love Media Prtal. It's open source, extremely customizable but can be a little buggy.

Yes we all agree that the touchsmart is a great machine, sexy, cool and so touchable. but what lets it down, and sorry for this HP, is the software interface. so I went looking for a replacement.
You could use media centre as it stands but its not that great, so I've been looking at XBMC (xbox media centre), and so far looks quite cool it's skinnable and quite extensivly customable. Have a look it's open source, and free. It may well be an answer at least in the short term for those that find the HP software frustrating, at least till HP offer something better

It's coming around the bend. That's why HP needs to get on the ball. Touch technology is going to explode after Windows 7 is released. Many websites and apps are looking to that. You will start noticing bigger buttons on shopping sites and more 3D viewing. PCs are getting fast enough to handle the load and touch tech is highly anticipated. With the iPhone and iPod touch being popular, it will become demand in all computer interacting. Windows, Apple and now HP are in the forefront of this new frontier.
I have hopes that HP will improve their software. But even if they don't, we can always retire the TS software when Adobe comes out with Touch Suite Deluxe Edition.
For an example, check out Cooliris. http://www.cooliris.com/
I use Origami Project 2.0 on my tablet PC. Although it was designed for touch based ultramobile PC's like my Samsung Q1U, it works and scales great to the larger screen on my TX tablet. While it does not have all the features of the TS or Mediasmart, it does add a good dimension of touch features.
You have the ability to open a touch friendly browser, create tiles, sticku notes and view media from within the program. V1.0 would only work on UMPC's but 2.0 works on just about anything and it works with Win 7 too.

Woohoo! I won my Touchsmart!
I have been using Bumptop. http://www.bumptop.com It works very well with my touchscreen TouchSmart tx2 1025dx
I think the app is being released tomorrow or the next day.
I installed a fun app on my Touchsmart TX2 notebook. I'm sure it will also work with the Touchsmart Desktop. It is called Objectdock. It is provided by Stardock.com. I installed the free version. It puts a bar on the bottom, similar to the Mac bar. When you more your mouse or finger over the bar, each of the selected icons magnify. Touching them starts the associaated program or opens the associated folder or document. It does work and allows me to move some icons from my desktop to the bar. I also have it working with Bumptop, but I just recently installed BT and not sure it adds much value. It does help organize my folders nicely though.
Another good application is the Moffsoft Free Calculator. It's miles better than what comes bundled with Microsoft Accessories. It is expandable in size and lets you run a virtual tape so you can review the number you entered. The ability to resize the application is handy for my touchsmart tx2 as it makes it practical to use it as a replacement for my real world calculator. I am running vista 64 bit and it works fine.
I kinda wish HP would license the apps from fingertapps:

Looks like Dell already did for their multi-touch PCs, and the interface looks like it runs more smoothly than the Touchsmart suite.
