Exactly the problem I am having. I think there is a problem with the Nvidia drivers interacting with Windows 7. I actually unattached the driver and am using the Windows Generic (Video Controller - VGA Compatibale) and it has solved both the blinking and color problems. However, I think I am going to run into other issues when I start watching videos or using other High video graphic programs like adobe etc. I also know another person who is having the same issues.
HP and or Nvidia needs to find an answer for this one soon I hope.
I have a Touchsmart IQ506 and after upgrading to Windows 7 my screen is blinking every few seconds. In addition, the screen colors are just a little "off", ie, reds are too bright, etc. I have downloaded all the updates from both Windows and HP, but nothing has helped.
I know seen that others have experienced this same issue, but I have not seem anyone with a suggestion to correct the problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Problem solved! On one of the HP support forums, a user provided a solution which stopped my flickering. Here were the steps that I followed:
1. Download the driver file "sp37523":
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS Graphics BIOS and Driver Update 07-2008 7.15.11.7466 - 77.75M
This driver is listed under the 64-bit Vista download section.
2. You need to use winrar, or another extraction tool, to extract the files into a directory (do not run the file sp37523 directly).
3. Go into the src_Driver folder, and run setup.exe directly from there.
This actually worked! During the installation, my screen went black and then my computer rebooted. When it came back up, everything worked. No flicker and the colors were corrected. Note that the forum post warned that the screen would go black.
As a side note, I did have a "chat" with an HP technical support person, and he said that HP is aware of the issue and is waiting for nvidia to correct the problem. But for the time being, I'm back in action.
