Hi!

I don’t know if I’m in the right part of the forum, I’m still new to this whole tablet pc - thing. But I just have one question to ask. I have been searching the web and using my friend Google but it hasn’t given any info on this weird behavior:

The left side of my display, making that the right side when I´m in landscape mode is partly magnetic. This causes the pen (stylus) to stick on to the screen when I place it there. It’s not causing any trouble or distraction, or even interference with the screen (Atleast nothing noticeable). So you can like place the pen there just like that....BUT the weird part is, I haven’t noticed it until now, which makes me think I might have done something. Like maybe the screen is broken, so now it´s creating this magnetic-area.  That’s why I´m asking you guys, is this weird? Or does everybody have it? Oh btw i have a HP Touchsmart TX2-1050eo.

Thanks for the help

//Michael

Don't worry. You didn't destroy anything. There's a little magnet in the back of the display. I'm using this feature to store the pen while I'm not writing with it in tablet mode. Hope this won't affect the behavior of the pen over time or do any harm to it.

Weird....my 1224CA has it as well. Not near enough to hold onto the stylus though.

This undocumented feature of the TX2 works flawless at least.

I raised this issue over a month ago, I thought it was the reason why the wireless switch wont work when it tablet mode cos the magnet comes close to the switch on the right (in tablet mode). but im using the magnet to hold my spare pen in laptop mode as I type. Its SIIIIIIIIICK!!!

Funny this should come up because I just noticed it today as well. Its rather handy for the tx2 because the pen is entirely round. On some other tablets like the x61t, the pen has sort of the standard clip so it doesn't roll away.

The magnet itself is for the display switch. If you hold a magnet up next to the ~ switch, the screen turns off. On the other hand, if you hold it next to the backspace key, it goes into tablet mode. Note that I don't actually recommend you to play with it as there are many parts in your laptop that are sensitive to magnetics ;)

Okej, so we shouldn´t place our styluses on it? Does somebody know for a fact that the pen can cause any harm by putting it their?

I was referring to the magnets being potentially hazardous to your hard drive. But even that is debatable. My intuition tells me that its harmless to put it there, but I'm not necessarily basing this on anything as I am not familiar with the ntrig technology.

Had a fun experience with that this weekend. Was helping out client of mine who was having some computer issues, and had my tx2 with me for grabbing drivers and such, and placed it next to the current computer.

They have a CRT monitor, and I forgot about the magnet in the lid of the laptop that was opened almost touching the CRT monitor. The person freaked out thinking I had broken their monitor because of the screen distortion from the magnet next to it. Was funny =)
