I think I remember reading some release notes from n-Trig that mention that you have to uninstall the digitizer driver each time you plan to boot to the "other" OS and then install the correct driver after you've booted the "other" OS. If I remember correctly, this is because the firmware for the digitizer has to match the OS it's supposed to work with. In other words, the digitizer needs to run with different firmware for each OS.
As far as I know there is no solution for this, other than uninstalling and reinstalling on each OS switch.
Ok I found a problem with N-Trig drivers.
I have HP TX2z-1000 PC. Now I wanted to do a dual boot installation of Vista and Windows 7 on it.
Now after installing both Operating syatems, when I install N-Trig driver for Vista, it corrupts Windows 7 N-Trig and Multi-Touch stops working there. Then when I install the Windows 7 N-Trig driver on Windows 7, the Vista N-Trig gets corrupted and stops working.
I want to have both OS. Does anyone else tried dual booting these OS. Do you have this kind of problem??
Well please help me in solving this problem.
That's right. From the latest N-trig driver release notes (emphasis in original):
"Important notice:
If you wish to run a dual boot system, ensure that you install the DuoSense MTG package on Vista or XP prior to installing the DuoSense MTM package on Windows 7.
If you wish to replace your DuoSense MTM package with the original DuoSense MTG package on Windows 7, ensure that you first uninstall the MTM package, prior to installing the MTG package.
Failure to do either of the above may result in irreparable damage to your system."

It would be great if someone could append this important detail to the Dual-Boot "How To" article at http://www.touchsmartdevzone.com/article/1150/Dual-Boot-Your-HP-TouchSmart-Wi...
Ryanc, that article covers all touchsmarts, not just the notebooks. The desktop models and older tx system dont have those same instructions, so appending it to that article would cause more issues than anything else.

Hi jollywombat,
I see your point, but given the apparent severity of an accidental boot into the other OS ("irreparable damage to your system" ?!!!), I wouldn't think appending a note directed toward tx2 users would be problematic. Considering the tx2 is the least expensive (and therefor most commonly purchased) TouchSmart to date, it would surely save a lot of people some serious headaches.
Fortunately in my case, I haven't yet booted into the other OS. I'm SO GLAD I saw this posting first!
The tx2 is not the least expensive - most common touchsmart. The touchsmart series also has their low end models at the same or lesser price (subject to what promotions are being run at the time on each unit), and have been around longer than the tx2 system.
That article was also written with the touchsmart desktop series in mind, not the tx2 notebook series.
Also note that when dual booting using this system, you will still have to uninstall/reinstall the correct packages depending on which OS you are in. It will not allow functionality in the other OS depending on which package you have currently installed.
Out of idle curiosity, why are you bothering to dualboot this system to begin with? There are no advantages to vista over win7 for this unit, so interested in why you are bothering with it.

So there is no way to dual boot and make both touch work perfectly. Well I need it because most of my software dont work in Windows 7 yet. I have tried to install the DuoSense MTG package on Vista before installing on windows 7. But after installing on windows 7, the Vista one stops working. Why the hell does it require to update the BIOS. Could't it do without. The developers of Ntrig must come up with a solution for this.
It updates the Digitizers firmware with specific code for the operating system. As 99% of people would not dual boot this unit, its not really high on their priority list I would assume. N-trig has yet to put out a decent driver for the digitizer yet that supports greater than two touchpoints and no random interferance, much less work on multi-OS fuctionaltiy.
What software is not able to run after playing with the compatablity settings? Win7 is vista codebase with a facelift after all.

Hi jollywombat,
To answer your question: my Vista partition was a byproduct of using Paragon Partition Manager to resize and backup Vista prior to the Win7 upgrade. Since the Vista partition is on an external drive and the tx2 has this N-trig firmware issue, I'll likely never use it (maybe I'll use it if I ever have to re-install Win7 just to save myself the headache of removing all the factory image bloatware and re-installing basic useful software).
However, my other reason for partitioning the drive was to make space for a Linux partition. Looks like a dual boot with Linux isn't going to be straightforward either - see

http://www.touchsmartdevzone.com/forum/thread/76/Will-it-run-Linux/
And with any possible danger of "irreparable damage" to the system I must admit I'm reluctant to try.
Just curious regarding which TouchSmart is the most popular: might you know of any sales numbers with which to compare? With the ongoing worldwide trend of laptop computers outselling desktop computers, it would be interesting to know how many TouchSmarts in each category have been sold and what the sales projections are.
