Best Regards
Paul
I just received a brand new IQ526 and suddenly, out of the blue the CD drive completelly disappears from the map. It is not found nor at the device manager neither anywhere.
I was thinking that should be only a firmware issue, as it is runing and trying to work, but actually it seems to be a premature dead.
Any tips will be very welcome, thanks.

Easy solution
I followed all sources for help, from HP to Microsoft including the one indicated by Paul and the only thing I found was more doubts.
Finally I took the decision to open this marvelous cabinet to look for loosing conections. That is not easy to open it up, first I removed the little lateral cover over the slin CD drive and abracadabra, the solution was there. Over the top of the drive exist one rectangular little unadentyfied botton. I just push it once and restart the computer. That is it, again, out of the blue the CD/DVD drive become operational.

The solution was easy, but temporary,
The CD/DVD drive is gone again by itself. As I explained on the other post I tried to repeat the same procedure but didn't work this time. There is nothing to do, instead send the machine to the warranty service.

Sounds like a bad drive out of the box, all right.
Feel lucky, my hard drive died at 93 days (on a refurb 90 day warranty!) But that's ok, as I was going to go bigger anyway, (and did)
Connection job on a CD/DVD is pretty straight forward on these, though... If you don't want to wait on warranty, you could always just swap it out yourself.

Finally thatÂ's fixed,
Not big deal and very easily to perform the repair. I followed step by step all instructions presented to me by HP US support to reinstall/replace the drive and found the real issue that was interrupting good drive functions. The power/data cable connector was little loose due stressed cable root. The angle formed at the end of the cable near the connection was causing interruption contact. It was just a matter to re root the cable to obtain good performance again.
Very easy and simple if performed carefully.
Anyone interested to know how to reinstall or replace the drive, can follow the Web link to HP.
