I was planning to buy this laptop after seeing it at amazon, but as I research the pc I see there's many problems that might make me regret it I buy it.

Reasons not to buy

* Fan Noise

* Over Heat

* Touch Screen Driver Probs

* Not able to use more then half the capacity of the CPU without problem 1 and 2 occuring

Reasons to buy

* Touch Screen

* Able to take hand written notes

* Can transform into Tablet

Also can anyone tell me how well can this laptop play a high graphic game like Crysis because I plan to use this laptop sometimes for games that is if I decide to get it and can anyone tell me long the Tx2 usually last. (If possible does anyone know the longest duration a Tx2 TouchSmart has last w/o being breaking down bad enough to be sent to the Hp company)

If you decide I shouldn't get the laptop can someone give me a laptop similiar to it. My budget is $900

Um dude most of those problems are false I dont get why people keep saying over heating and fan noise. Note ONLY the TX2 1000 series has over heating and fan noise All Model series above the 1000 do not have those problems and the TX2 you want to buy is a 1300 series model. There are no Touch Screen Driver Problems unless you had a TX2 with Windows Vista and Upgraded to windows 7.Over heating is what happened in the 1000 series models and so is noisy fan HP fixed those problems in the newer models so those and touch drivers you shouldn't worry sbout unless you decided to use another driver. Go to youtube and search up TX2 gaming it will show a demonstration of Call Of Duty and BattleFeild this is a Tablet PC so you shouldn't expect gaming PC like performance but it has excellent performance on low details if you want desktop like graphics I suggest you hook up your express card slot to a external PCI-E.Its powerful enough to play modern games today since most games require at least 2.00Ghz to run. The TX2 durability depends on what model you have and how you treat and your warranty. As long as you have a warranty I wouldn't worry most of your problems would probably happen the first year. Just make sure HP doesn't send you one with defective hardware , if you get one with defective hardware I sugest you send it back to HP before it damages anything else.

I'm fixing to get the Tx2 for Christmas.

The bad talk has me a little scared too but I finally started looking at the total number of reviews as well.

It seems to me that the number of reviews for the Tx2 far exceeds any other tablet pc being produced. They must be doing something right and if you sell more systems than everyone else, there are bound to be more people having them fixed. It also seems to me that even though they share a very similar model number the ones being made now are not the same machines they were selling at the first of 2009.

Something else that helped me decide was trying to find another non-netbook Tablet anywhere near the same price as the HP. You can almost buy two HP's for the price of one convertible tablet from any other company with a like configuration.

I also looked at the 13" Dell studio XPs non-tablet but (a) it's not a tablet and (b) it didn't seem to fair any better than the Tx2 in the grand scheme of online reviews.

I did get scared into the $269 accidental warranty thing on HP instead of the 8g of ram though.

By the way I have only used one as far as trying them out at Best Buy a gazzillion times. So this is only Why I 'decided' to go with the HP...

Incorrect.  The Tx2z model started shipping before 2009 (November 20, 2008 I believe) and they are still using that exact same hardware to this day in the tx2-1300 line, they just changed the model name.   The TX2-1300 is a TX2-1000, but with Windows 7 as the base config OS instead of vista, nothing else.

*I explained about your incorrect statement in another thread regarding the differences between the 1000 and the 1300 series Daxter, please review before telling people that the 1300 is different as we dont want them having false information.

The reason that there are more reviews on this than other tablet models is due to the Multitouch features offered (at the time) on only this model and the Dell model.  The dell model though was for business use and quite a bit more expensive because of that (better build quality for the business machines), so this was the only real choice for the majority of consumers to purchase.  Easy to have the most reviews when your the only one to be reviewed practially =)

If your only intent is gaming really, I would suggest looking elsewhere.  This was not designed to be a gaming machine, the touch functionality does not play nice with any sort of FPS, and has a weak graphics card.  There are alot of other options out there that are designed around multimedia and gaming, I would suggest those if that is your goal.  This model can do light gaming if need be, but again, not this units design intent.

Remember that the TM2 should be comming out in the future with what should be a redesigned hardware solution.  No release dates or hard info on exact specs, but its in the pipeline.   If you dont feel like waiting though, this is a really great laptop, have loved mine.

Didn't know they had offered the 7200rpm drives and the zm-87 processor when they first introduced the tablet. Appologize if I was incorrect in my thinking I was sorta being rhetorical and meaning that people seemed (just to me) to be happier with them now that they were nearly a year ago.

That is because with the release of Windows 7, these units have gone from hacky/broken touch functionality to an OS intregrated functionality of touch. Vista had no native touch support, Win7 has it built in.

In addition to that, a recent Bios release (F.21) has fixed alot of the heat issues some users were complainging about and controls power and thermal management much better. Combine that with proper drivers now for Win7 and the unit has gone from the clunky craptop it was under vista to a respectable and useful laptop now. You can also follow the undervolting guides and further increase your battery life while lowering your CPU temps greatly to further improve this laptop.

Since the Tx2z-1000 users have had to deal with the vista problems and poor bios power/thermal control, and the 1300 users never had to since it came with those software enhancements off the bat, the 1300 appears to be a whole new model and much better to those who dont check. HP knows that and thats why the 1000 was relabled as the 1300 to get rid of the bad stigma assocaited with the former complaints.

Long story short, recent software/firmware improvements have made this unit a great little laptop using the same hardware that has been in the model for over a year now.

So this laptop will not be good enough for games like strategy war base games like Warcraft III or StarCraft II ( Not out yet, but its been said to need some heavy graphics)?

December 4, 2009 1:16 PM

Strategy games are fine and work well with the multitouch. I play Civ4 on it all the time. Warcraft III isnt a high end game and should run well on it. Starcraft II however probably will not run so well on this unit, but who knows. Could be 2012 when they lauch the damn game, damn blizzard.

Great thanks. That makes me glad I can still play some games I like. You sure I can't even play a fps if I lower the settings enough like Combat Arms or Left 4 Dead 2?

I would doubt LFD2 would run based on its system requirements which this laptop does not meet. (Graphics card)

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
• Operation System: Windows 7 / Vista / XP
• CPU: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
• RAM: Windows XP - 1 GB RAM / Windows Vista - 2GB
• Graphics Card: ATI x800/nVidia 6600 or better; DirectX 9 compatible card w/ 128MB memory; Shader model 2.0
• Hard Drive Space: 7.5 GB of free space
• Sound Device: DirectX 9c compatible sound card

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
• Operation System: Windows 7 / Vista / XP
• CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz or better
• RAM: Windows XP - 1 GB RAM / Windows Vista - 2GB
• Graphics Card: ATI X1600/nVidia 7600 or better; DirectX 9 compatible card w/ Shader model 3.0
• Hard Drive Space: 7.5 GB of free space
• Sound Device: DirectX 9c compatible sound card

From: http://www.touchsmartdevzone.com/forum/thread/2181/What-games-are-you-playing/ What games are you playing:

November 26, 2009 12:13 AM

As long as you have a nice surface that can dissipate heat well, you can play a lot of newer games. I've been playing L4D2 and Borderlands on my TX2 as of late when I'm not near my desktop.

So aparently it will play. I would check there for more game info. Because all the tx2's are basically the same.

I'm half tempted to install it just to see how badly it runs on that system. All settings at lowest possible values and still probably getting ~10fps I would guess =s. Tried Aion on this unit at absolutely lowest settings and it was mostly unplayable other than minor tasks within game that didn't require reaction time. Less minimum specs needed for it than LFD2.

Sticking to a real gaming machine, this laptop is for office productivity, easy internet browsing and tablet functions.
